Elizabeth Ann Smith and Michael Jeffrey Welshonce were united in marriage on October 24, 2009 at Salem Presbyterian Church in Studley. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Ellis Conley of Fairmont, W. Va.
The bride is the daughter of Edwin and Teresa Smith of Studley. She is the granddaughter of Elizabeth Smith of Studley and the late Patrick Smith and Allen and Barbara Young of Mechanicsville.
The groom is the son of Jeffrey and Deborah Welshonce of Elkins, W. Va. He is the grandson of Harriet Welshonce of Elkins and the late James Welshonce and Laura Crawford of Elkins and the late William Maynard Crawford.
The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the alter by her father. She wore a satin, ivory gown detailed with lace embellishments handmade by her grandmother, Barbara Young. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of calla lilies and ivory roses.
Serving as maid of honor was Julie Smith, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Diana Muntean, Laura Pearson, Carter Maxey, and Ashley Gills, friends of the bride. The bride’s attendants wore cinnamon tea-length satin gowns. They carried hand-tied bouquets of calla lilies. Flower girls were Taylor Smith, Lauren Smith, and Gracie Smith, cousins of the bride.
Serving as best man was Jeffrey Welshonce, father of the groom. Groomsmen were Tom Welshonce, brother of the groom, Curtis Harris, friend of the groom, and Phillip Ramey, uncle of the groom. Serving as ring bearer was Ryan Marshall Smith, Jr., cousin of the bride. The groom’s attendants wore dark chocolate tuxedos.
Serving as mistress of ceremonies was Linda Mills, aunt of the bride. Guestbook and program attendants were Sarah Ramey, cousin of the groom, and Carolyn Welshonce, sister-in-law of the groom. Photography was done by Images by David of Mechanicsville. The flowers for the ceremony were done by Coleman Brother’s Flowers of Richmond.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the fellowship hall and pavilion with great food and music. Catering was provided by Jean Sadderwhite and other friends of the bride.
Lisa Wilkerson, friend of the bride, provided the reception music. The beautiful wedding cake was made by Dawnee Smith, cousin of the bride.
Following a honeymoon at Lydia Mountain Cabins in Stanardsville, Va., the couple now resides in Blacksburg.
