A 15-year-old from Caroline County has been charged with malicious wounding following an Aug. 17 incident.

According to a Friday press release from the Ashland Police Department, the male was being held at a juvenile detention center.

The shooting took place just after midnight at a residence in the 300 block of New Street in Ashland.

When police officers arrived, several individuals were seen leaving the area. They found an adult male with gunshot wounds to the back and the leg. He was transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Investigators are continuing to look into the incident.

The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
