Hanover Sheriff’s deputies arrested 16 people last week, in the latest large-scale underage drinking incident in the county.
Thirteen persons were arrested for underage possession of alcohol in the morning of June 20 at a large outdoor party in the 7400 block of Lexington Drive in Mechanicsville.
Another was arrested for being drunk in public, one for possession of a controlled substance and one for carrying a concealed weapon.Spokesperson Sgt. Mike Trice said the weapon was a set of brass knuckles.
In another recent underage drinking incident, two adults have been charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and providing alcohol to someone under 21 after eight underage persons were arrested at a party in the 8000 block of Kerrick Trace.
Trice called the underage drinking “a catalyst that could lead to more dangerous things. People can get hurt, kids can die,” said Trice.
“These parties are happening in residential areas,” said Trice, emphasizing that in most cases someone is purchasing the alcohol and providing it to the minors.
“If you don’t know what’s going on on your property, who would?” asked Trice.
The latest incident is still under investigation, said Trice.
“We’re going to take this as far as we can,” he said in determining where the alcohol came from.
