The identities of two people who died in a fiery crash were still being withheld today pending conclusive results from the medical examiner’s office.
According to Capt. Michael J. Trice of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, a two-vehicle collision occurred around 5 p.m. Saturday just north of the intersection of Georgetown Road on U.S. 301.
While the investigation is ongoing, Trice said preliminary reports indicate “that a 2008 Chevrolet van was traveling south on Hanover Courthouse Road and just prior to the intersection with Georgetown Road.”
The van reportedly “entered the northbound lane and struck a 2008 Ford F-350 pickup that was traveling north on Hanover Courthouse Road head-on.”
The captain also said a fire erupted in the van after the collision.
“Despite the efforts of the emergency personnel and others on scene,” Trice said, “the two occupants of the vehicle could not be removed and were pronounced deceased at the scene.”
The driver of the pickup truck, who was alone in the vehicle, was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Trice said that the injuries were not life-threatening.

From what I have understood this was not the fault of the road.

The County has to do a better job in approving developments according to the roads or more and more of these types of accidents will occur.
My thoughts and prayer goes out to the family and friends that are affected!

Why aren’t they releasing the names? Makes people nervous it’s someone they know. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by this.

This article is incorrect, two were dead on impact not one and the driver of the other vehicle is in the hospital. I am not releasing the names of the victims as the newspaper did not, but he was a very loved man at work and a close dear friend.

Its not the road’s fault. A minor distraction takes the driver’s attention from the road and
that’s all it takes.Keep the victimand family in your prayers.

that could have been any of us. Those roads are dangerous and outdated. Needs to be fixed
