“Driving Miss Daisy,” the warm-hearted comedy that earned Alfred Uhry the Pulitzer Prize, is being presented at the Barksdale Theatre at Hanover Tavern.
The play opened on Friday and continues through Oct. 26, with performances scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
“Driving Miss Daisy” is being directed by Joe Pabst and stars Joy Williams, James Bynum and Garrett Chester.
Uhry’s work tells the story of the surprising friendship that grows between the tiny yet tenacious Daisy Werthan, an independent Jewish widow, and Hoke, the soft-spoken yet proud black chauffeur hired by Daisy’s son after she crashes another car.
At first, her stubbornness and cultural prejudices cause much friction, but Daisy and Hoke grow over the span of 25 years during the tidal waves of change in the American South.
The audience watches as these two seemingly very different people discover how much they truly do have in common.
Single tickets are $38; $3 discounts are available for seniors, students and Ukrop’s cardholders.
