A 38-year-old Henrico man was arrested after an early morning chase that began in Mechanicsville last Thursday morning.
Sylvester Turner Jr., of the 900 block of Ironington Road, was the subject of a pursuit that began at the Holiday Inn Express in Mechanicsville, where Hanover Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a robbery at 6:30 a.m.
Deputies gave chase, but lost sight of the suspect until they heard a woman screaming in the parking lot of the Mechanicsville Wal-Mart. A 19-year-old woman told deputies he attempted to get her to drive him away in her car at knifepoint.
The woman and her 14-year-old brother were able to escape and the suspect drove off in her car.
Hanover authorities alerted neighboring jurisdictions, and Henrico Police spotted the stolen vehicle near I-295 and Staples Mill Road and began pursuit.
The suspect crashed near I-295 and I-64 in Short Pump. He ran to the Lowe’s store on Pouncey Tract Road, where he attempted to steal a tractor trailer and a Jeep. Both drivers fended him off, and he ran into the Lowe’s store, where he was caught by Henrico Police officers.
Henrico authorities charged Turner with attempted auto theft, attempted car jacking, possession of cocaine, possession of stolen property, and felony eluding.
The Hanover Sheriff’s Office anticipates filing additional charges against Turner.
