Jerome Mallory, 43, of Hanover, entered a plea of guilty to second degree murder for the killing of Charles Houchens, 69, of Louisa, in Louisa County Circuit Court.

According to Louisa Commonwealth’s Attorney Thomas A. Garrett, the two men were arguing on Aug. 2 when Mallory struck Houchens several times, forcing him to the ground.

As Houchens laid on the ground, Mallory kicked him at least three times in the head, causing the fatal blow.

Following the hearing, deputy commonwealth’s attorney Rusty McGuire said “it is hard to imagine what kind of anger would cause a family member to kill another family member this way. We are satisfied with the outcome today and glad justice has been served for Mr. Houchens. Success today is a direct credit to the hard work of the Louisa County Sheriff’s Department.”

On Nov. 25, 2008, Mallory waived his preliminary hearing for second degree murder in the General District Court.

Following his plea today, he will be formally sentenced at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 24; he faces up to 40 years in prison.

Mallory continues to be held without bond pending formal sentencing.
