This year’s show features more than 300 exhibitors, celebrity appearances, seminars, more than 4,500 square feet of gardens, contests and special promotions.
“Whether you’re interested in building or remodeling, decorating or redecorating, sprucing up or landscaping your yard, this show has every facet of enhancing your “ home sweet home” . . . and it’s all in one convenient location,” Chris Grubbs, Affinity Events’ show manager, said.
Matt Paxton, a Richmond native and host of A&E’s cable show “Hoarders”, will be at the show at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for a special appearance where he will conduct a seminar and a question-and-answer session.
“Being involved with A&E’s show ‘Hoarders’ is really interesting especially from the aspect of truly being able to help people change their lives,” Paxton said. “My staff and I take great pride in our efforts. Although this contest is a light-hearted approach to organization, it allows us to have a little bit of fun while giving the winner a sense how de-cluttering can affect one’s well-being.”
Paxton also will co-host Richmond’s Trashiest Garage contest with WTVR Lite 98 FM and The Closet Factory. The public can upload photos of their messy garage to the radio station’s Web site for consideration. The winner gets to meet with Matt while his company, Clutter Cleaner, will come and help the winner sort through, clean out and organize their garage.
Other attractions include gardening seminars hosted by Henrico County Extension Office Master Gardeners.
Affinity Events saw a 51 percent increase in attendance during its Richmond Home Show this past fall.
“We believe that consumers are ready to spend money on, and take care of their biggest investment . . . their home,” Grubbs added. “Many of those who come are simply looking for new and creative ideas to improve and enhance their living space.”
He also said he believes the attendance for this spring show will increase significantly with lower admission fees, free return passes and free parking.
Event attendees will not only get to see the newest trends, goods and services from the 300-plus exhibitors but additionally many will have opportunities to win prizes and receive free giveaways. The first 200 people who arrive each day of the show will receive a six-inch flowering pansy compliments of Ed’s Landscaping and another of the exhibitors, Recreation Warehouse, is giving away a $2,500 gift certificate.
Seminars, demonstrations, meet-and-greets and special appearances also are on the schedule and people will find everything from custom countertops and building supplies to garden tools and irrigation systems.
The Richmond Home & Garden Show will be open from noon to 9 p.m. Friday, March 5; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 6; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 7, at the Richmond Raceway Complex.
Ticket prices are $8 for adults and children 16 and under will be admitted free. Active military, police and EMS also will be admitted free of charge with a valid ID.
There is free parking on site and those interested in attending the Richmond Home & Garden Show for more than one day should ask for free return passes, which will be available at the show office.
Cash only will be accepted at the box office but there is an ATM on-site.
