HANOVER COUNTY – A 65-year-old Massachusetts man died early Saturday morning (June 28) as a result of a hit-and-run vehicle crash in Hanover County.  The crash occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 95 at the 94 mile marker (north of Ashland).

Senior Trooper D. A. Lewis is conducting the investigation.

The trooper’s investigation has revealed that an unknown “box” style tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on Interstate 95 in the right lane.  The truck then ran off the road to the right onto the emergency shoulder and struck a man who was outside the vehicle attempting to get back in the vehicle.  He was in the process of switching driving responsibilities with the other occupant.  The driver of the tractor-trailer then continued on from the scene.  It is currently undetermined whether or not the tractor-trailer driver had knowledge of the crash.

The man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, has been identified as Ronald H. Taylor, 65, of Wakefield, Massachusetts.

Virginia State Police are asking anyone that may have witnessed the crash or be able to provide any information, however minor, to please call (804) 553-3445.  Additionally, we want to urge fatigued motorists to seek out a location off of the highway to safely switch drivers.
