National Night Out observances brought together several Mechanicsville area communities on Tuesday, Aug. 3. McGruff the Crime Dog visited Lakeside Apartments. Yorke Pointe Subdivision residents enjoyed refreshments, skateboarding and games. Chase Cordle and Tyler Williams showed the younger kids the safe way to skateboard. This was the subdivision’s first National Night Out observance, with 30 of 49 homes participating. Ernest Wood, the Neighborhood Watch chairman, and Carolyn Shortt coordinated the event for Yorke Pointe. In the photo at right, Deputy Robbie Hess of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office visited with 95-year-old Dot Wooddy, left, and Mary Greenwood at Signal Hill Apartments. In the photo in the left corner, Lt. Col. David Hines and Commonwealth’s Attorney R.E. “Trip” Chalkley III talked with Windsor Subdivision residents. Explorer Matt Segal, photo below, helped fingerprint kids at the Command Post Child ID Program at Windsor.
