The Hanover Sheriff’s Office announced Monday it had arrested three persons on vandalism charges for damage to Hanover High School and Oak Knoll Middle School last week.
All three are current or former Hanover High students.
Cyle Moore, 18, Chase Scott, 19, and a 15-year-old juvenile were charged with one count each of vandalism, a felony, and one count each of trespassing on school property.
They are accused of using spray paint and an all-terrain vehicle to cause thousands of dollars in damage to the two schools on U.S. 301 the night of Oct. 2/3.
Hanover Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Chris R. Whitley said the damage was discovered about 3 a.m. Oct. 3.
He said the rear of the school buildings as well as some outbuildings were sprayed with offensive words and slogans. He declined to disclose the nature of the words and slogans.
“There was a vast array of inappropriate messages on the buildings,” said school spokesperson Dale Theakston last Thursday. Theakston said the Sheriff’s Office alerted school administration early enough so that school building services were able to remove the graffiti by the time students arrived. School began on schedule Wednesday, said Theakston.
An all-terrain vehicle was used to damage the football field, said Whitley.
Theakston said that school employees repaired the field in time for last Thursday’s junior varsity football game.
