Where’s Jerry?
Fugitive shot girlfriend 6 times

Stacie Harvey Breaker has three reminders of the events of Jan. 29, 1999. When her former boyfriend, Jerry Otis Robinson, unloaded a .22 caliber pistol, six bullets struck her.

Today, three remain lodged in her body.

After shooting Stacie and then attempting to strangle her, Jerry fled the apartment they had shared at Mill Trace Village Apartments. He has been a fugitive since he tried to kill the woman he had at one time planned to make his wife.

Last Wednesday, Stacie talked…

Robbers on the Run
Technology literally puts a face on suspect

An arrest on Thursday may have prevented a recent bank robbery from becoming “cold,” but similar incidents remain active for investigators with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Four “cold cases” involving robberies are now being actively pursued by investigators.

On Friday, Capt. Michael J. Trice released information about 44-year-old Preston Robert Walcker being charged with the May 4 robbery of the Union First Market Bank at 7279 Bell Creek Road…

Who killed Theresa?
Victim had vanished from Chesterfield

No marker. No flowers. Theresa Baker’s final resting place at Roselawn Cemetery in Glen Allen is void of any of the usual symbols memorializing a life lost.

About 60 days after coming to the Richmond area in 1985, the 24-year-old vanished from Midlothian in Chesterfield County. The date was Sept. 20; her badly decomposed body was discovered on Woodbridge Road in Mechanicsville on Feb. 8, 1986.

At that time, law enforcement authorities and the medical examiner’s office…

Who killed Russell?
‘Suspect pool was immense’

Life in Mechanicsville for Russell D. Franklin seemed full and productive: He was father to a 2-year-old son and had a good job and lots of friends. That is, until Aug, 14, 2004, when that life was cut short by a gunshot.

Shortly after 3 a.m., the 27-year-old’s body was found in his light blue Cadillac on Old Hickory Drive, near the entrance to Sherwood Crossing Apartments. The vehicle had crashed into a dumpster.

Drew Darby, the initial investigator for the Hanover County…

Investigators renew approach to cases

As the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office helps launch a monthly series of cold cases in The Mechanicsville Local, two officers in the Investigations Division say they are renewing the way they look at the cases.

Last Wednesday, Capt. Michael J. Trice, supervisor of the unit, and Sgt. Eddy Smith talked about their work as they take a new approach to the 2004 shooting death of Russell D. Franklin, 24, of Mechanicsville.

“Basically,” Smith said, “we reorganized…

About Cold Cases

The Cold Case series stemmed from a conversation with Capt. Michael J. Trice of the Hanover County Sheriff's Office, who spearheads the unit in charge of these cases. Admittedly, I am a reader and viewer of these types of articles and programs. How gratifying it must be to solve a case sometimes decades after the crime was committed and see justice for the victim and the family. This is the goal of this series: To engage the readers in these cases with the hope that information may be provided to the Sheriff's Office that will make the difference in closing the case.
