Disorderly behavior results in injuries

One person received a gunshot wound to the face and another received treatment at a local hospital for cuts and abrasions, as a result of a disorder that took place early Saturday morning at the American Legion Post 175 in Mechanicsville.

The American Legion, located at 9164 Atlee Road, was rented out for a private party, when at approximately 1 a.m. Saturday, several disorders developed, according to Lt. Michael J. Trice of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies arrest county man for pharmacy robbery

A 20-year-old Montpelier man has been charged with robbing the Montpelier Pharmacy.

According to Lt. Michael J. Trice of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, Jamerson Early Seay was identified as a possible suspect soon after the robbery, based on the strong citizen support and the initiative of the responding officers.

A resident of the 16000 block of Hennessy Way, Seay was arrested Friday, Feb. 13, and charged with robbery and possession of a controlled substance.
He is lodged in the Pamunkey Regional Jail without bond.

Suspicious fire under investigation

The Hanover Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a suspicious fire that occurred on Jan. 29 at 8386 Shady Grove Road.

A white male in his early 20s was seen leaving the scene just before the fire.

Anyone with information regarding this fire should call 1-877-623-7283.

Any information leading to an arrest could be worth up to $30,000.

4 nabbed at school, 23 more at separate gatherings

Twelve juveniles and 11 adults under the age of 21 were arrested for underage possession of alcohol last weekend after the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office investigated two local underage parties that took place in separate areas of the county. And on Friday a drug detection operation at two high schools led to the arrests of four students.

According to Sgt. Chris R. Whitley of the Sheriff’s Office, several of those arrested are students at local high schools, mostly in Hanover County.

Deputies make arrests in residential burglaries

Several arrests have been made on recent residential burglaries in the western area of Hanover County by the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators have linked four daytime residential burglaries occurring between Dec. 31, 2008, and Jan. 7, 2009, to four individuals. These burglaries occurred in the 1900 block of Hewlett Road, the 14000 block of Verdon Road, and both the 16000 and 17000 blocks of Goshen Road.

County man sentenced for role in porn ring

A Mechanicsville man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his role in an international child-pornography ring.

Michael D. Berger had been set to go to trial this week, but he earlier pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Pensacola, Fla., to receiving child pornography, authorities said on Wednesday, Jan. 7.

He was sentenced Dec. 16.

Berger is one of 15 men indicted in federal court in connection with the worldwide pornography ring.

Authorities seeking help in locating wanted man

The Henrico Police and the Hanover Sheriff’s Office need your help in locating a wanted person.

The suspect is wanted in Henrico for burglary, grand larceny, arson and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is wanted in Hanover for several larcenies from autos. He may be in the company of a white male juvenile age 16. In one of the larcenies the suspect stole a handgun, so he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Troopers, deputies crack down on driving violators

Christmas 2007 saw 14 people lose their lives on Virginia highways, an increase of one from the year before.

The weekend of Dec. 19-21 was observed as Operation CARE/Holiday Lifesaver Weekend by troopers with the Virginia State Police.

Deputies with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office have been cracking down on those driving under the influence, as well as other violations, in recent weeks during sobriety checkpoints. Their locations have been unannounced and they have netted several arrests for a variety of traffic offenses.

$23,000 in antique weapons and property stolen

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office needs assistance identifying the person(s) responsible for breaking into a van, while parked at a Mechanicsville restaurant, and stealing more than $23,000 in antique weapons and property.

According to Lt. Michael J. Trice, on Oct. 19, an antique firearms dealer had just left the Showplace on Mechanicsville Turnpike in Henrico County and drove to the Cracker Barrel in Mechanicsville.

Crawford found guilty; jury recommends 70 years in prison

Just a day shy of the day 6-year-old Alexander Paul Glanz’s lifeless body was found 28 years ago, a Hanover County jury found his accused killer guilty of first-degree murder and abduction with intent to defile.
John Bradley “Brad” Crawford, who was 19 at the time of the crime, will be sentenced by Circuit Court Judge J. Overton Harris on Feb. 17.
On Friday, the six-man, six-woman jury recommended he be sentenced to 70 years, 35 years per charge.
