Dr. Louis Edward Alexander, a retired oral surgeon, passed away peacefully April 5, 2007. He was born in Richmond on July 20, 1919. He made Mechanicsville his home for 51 years. He practiced oral surgery for 35 years before retiring in 1984. Dr. Alexander was a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College and the Medical College of Virginia. He interned at Charlotte Memorial Hospital in Charlotte, N.C. and Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He was a retired life member of the American Dental Society, Virginia Dental Association and Richmond Dental Society. He was a member of the Southeastern Society of Oral Surgeons and PSI Omega Fraternity. He was a lifetime member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church of Richmond. During WWII, he served in H Company, 41st Armored Infantry Regiment, Second Armored Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, while participating in the Battle of the Bulge. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Mary Austin Timberlake; two sons, Louis Edward Alexander Jr. and wife, Lori Hixon Alexander, and William Timberlake Alexander and wife, Suzanne Robinson Alexander; five grandchildren, Michael Walter, Stephanie Austin, Mary Kate, Samuel Timberlake and Kali Gray; a sister, Mrs. Virginia Luter of Greensboro, N.C.; and beloved nieces and nephews. Dr. Alexander was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Joseph Audrey Alexander. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dr. David M. Alexander, Joseph A. Alexander Jr., Stuart l. Alexander and Walter H. Alexander; and a sister, Dorothy Alexander Brown. The family received friends Friday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. A funeral service was held at Walnut Grove Baptist Church Saturday, April 7 at 11 a.m. with interment in church cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Walnut Grove Baptist Church “Living Memorial Fund” or to your favorite charity.

Richard E. LaMarr, 70, of Mechanicsville, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Allen LaMarr; and a sister, Judy Seville. He is survived by a daughter, Tracy L. Dixon; son, Richard B. LaMarr; two grandchildren, Sterling Paige and Cameron; brothers, David LeMarr and wife, Kayte, Ronnie LeMarr and wife, Susan; and a sister, Linda LeMarr. The family received friends Saturday and Sunday at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Monday. Interment Hanover Memorial Park. Caralee Maynard Rooks, 98, of St. Pauls, N.C., formerly of Mechanicsville, Va., passed away Friday, March 30, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, James K. Rooks and a son, Sam L. Rooks. She is survived by her children, Belvin J. Rooks, Ann Rooks, Lalon Willoughby, Nancy Rinaldi and Martha Woodward; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, and other loving relatives. The family received friends Tuesday, April 3 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 4 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, 7046 Cold Harbor Rd., Mechanicsville. Interment church cemetery.

Betty Ellis Stewart, 59, of Mechanicsville, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, James Stewart; and is survived by her daughters, Sherry Martin and Shannon Muller; sons, Ray Vaughan III and Lloyd Thompson; sons-in-law, John Martin and Lee Muller; 12 grandchildren, a sister, Nancy Holt; and a brother, William Ellis. Mrs. Stewart was an avid bingo player at the Mechanicsville VFW Post No. 9808. Her family received friends Sunday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. Graveside services were conducted Monday in Washington Memorial Park.
