Grace Marie Baldwin-What a wonderful life, filled with love, laughter and a family she loved more than anything, our mother, Grace Marie Baldwin, 80 years young, of Mechanicsville, Va. was called home to be with the Lord and the love of her life, her husband, Kearney “Sonny” F. Baldwin Jr. on May 19, 2007. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles A. Snellinger and mother, Geneieve M. Snellinger. She is survived by her devoted children, Tony Barton, Jan McCormack and husband, Ralph, Deborah Funai, Kearney “Bubba” Baldwin III and wife, Teri, and James Baldwin Sr. and wife, Lisa; her loving grandchildren, Travis Barton Sr. and wife, Kim, Tracy Barton, Jeep Baldwin, Steven C. Camp Jr. and wife, Wanda, Tracey Moore and husband, Tommy, Jamie Camp, Kim McCormack, James Baldwin Jr. and wife, Veronica, Michael McCormack and wife, Jamie, Dawnee Smith and husband, Ryan, Allison Bowden, Jenny Funai, Adam Baldwin, Cora Campbell, Carla Campbell, and Carrie Van Dyke and husband, Nick; her fantastic great-grandchildren, Travis Barton Jr., Savannah Hawkins, Michael Thurston Jr., Chase Barton, Hailey Baldwin, James Baldwin III, Ryan Camp, R.J. Smith, Amber Baldwin, Alana Van Dyke, Ethan Scales, Brady Barton and her namesake, Gracie Smith; and her loyal dog, Chico Baby. Also her nephews and nieces, whom she cherished very much, Stephen, Marc, Jerry Snellinger and Leslie Blake and their families. Her extended family, C. R. “Ricky” Miller, Jean Johnson, Kelly Hobby, Heather Hogg and John Charles. She touched so many lives through the years, her strength was astonishing, her insight surprising, her loyalty unquestionable, and her love was endless. Grace had lung cancer, she never faltered, never questioned, she lived life to the fullest, she did it “Her Way” with dignity, faith in God and the love and support of her entire family and friends. She was an “Amazing Grace” to all who knew her. It’s not how many years you’ve lived, it’s how many lives you’ve touched along the way. She did make a difference. Remember her, and smile, she will surely be missed. The family received friends at the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., Mechanicsville, from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, and where services were held 1 p.m. Monday conducted by Rev. Mary Sue Swann and Rev. MarQuita Burton. Interment Signal Hill Memorial Park on 301 Hanover. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Odyssey Hospice (Parham Rd.). Special heartfelt thanks to her “Angels of Mercy” Diane Gillies, Barbara Pickle, Ebony Garrett, and Betsy Blackwell, God bless them all. “God touched them and they touched her.”
Willard Aubrey “Chuck” Crowe Jr., 82, of Richmond, passed away on May 22, 2007. Chuck will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, supportive father, grandfather, brother, uncle and true friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard A. “Will” Crowe Sr. and Josephine Hall Crowe; and two sisters, Clara C. Thompson and Ruby C. Blake. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lillian Bibb Crowe; his daughter, Patricia “Pat” C. Dinsmore; and his son, Willard “Bill” A. Crowe III; three grandchildren, Katharine E. Dinsmore, Amanda L. Crowe, and John A. Crowe; his sisters, Elizabeth “Beckie” C. Kemp, Royce C. Beasley (Bob); his brothers, Thurman D. Crowe (Dot) and Evan H. Crowe (Beth); and many nieces and nephews. Chuck was a former deacon of Fairmount Christian Church. He retired from Colonial Ford Truck Sales after a career in the sales of towing equipment and automotive after-market. He was a former director, president, and vice-president of the Atlee Ruritan Club. He was a charter member with the Henrico Fire Department and Rescue Squads, as well as the Hanover Volunteer Fire and Rescue. The family received friends Thursday and Friday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral services were held Saturday at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Road. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care and support of MCV/VCU, 6th Floor, North Hospital; the ICU No. 1, 9th Floor; and the CVS Pharmacy staff at Arch Road.

Mary Kathleen (Wrenn) Leach, a 1996 graduate of Lee-Davis High School, went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a former employee of the Hanover Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court and the Richmond City Circuit Court. She is survived by her husband, Jonathan A. Leach; parents Charlie T. “Bucky” and Juanita Wrenn; brothers, Charles A. Wrenn and wife, Angela, Brad C. Wrenn and wife, Teresa; grandmother, Stella J. Wrenn; two uncles, Edward S. Meadors III and Richard Lee Meadors; two nieces and three nephews and a wonderfully supportive family of in-laws. She leaves behind numerous devoted friends, teammates and co-workers, and her beloved dachshunds, Charlie and Julie. She was an avid sportswoman and a member of the James River Women’s Rugby Team. The family received friends Wednesday, May 23, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. A memorial service was held Thursday, May 23 at Hanover Evangelical Friends Church, 6420 Mechanicsville Turnpike. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VCU/MCV Hospital Palative Care Unit in gratitude for their loving care and support.

Lawrence “Will” Lowry, 19, a 2006 graduate of Lee-Davis High School, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2007, surrounded by his family. He is mourned by his parents, Ron and Joey Lowry; his two younger brothers, Michael and Benjamin; his grandmother, Elizabeth M. Tinsley; his aunt, Judy; his uncle, Joe; and two cousins, Jon and Jake. Also mourning his loss will be devoted family and friends, Mike and Val Mayhew, Marylynn Coalson, Scott Staylor, and Meg Richardson. Our deepest gratitude goes to the entire CCU staff at MCV, especially Amanda, Temple, Justine, Mary Beth, Dr. Grey and Marna Dixon. The family received friends Tuesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-David Road. A funeral mass was held at the Church of the Redeemer Wednesday, followed by a private interment in Hanover Memorial Park Cemetery.

Loretta Chattin Pritchard, an American patriot and a loving soul, died peacefully on the morning of May 16 in Hanover County, Va., at the age of 74. Loretta Mae Chattin was born to Amanda Potter Chattin and Philip Gordon Chattin in Princeton, West Virginia on July 12, 1932. She inherited a passion for flying from her father, who flew civilian aircraft.  Loretta graduated from Princeton High School, attended McLain’s Business College in nearby Bluefield, and then joined the United States Air Force. She served as a Senior Grade Radio Operator and was stationed, among other appointments, with the 32nd Air Division in Syracuse, New York.  Loretta was honorably discharged in 1954 and received the National Defense Service Medal. Although women would not be permitted to fly for the USAF for another two decades, she learned to fly in the private sector and became a licensed civilian pilot.
After her military service, Loretta moved about a bit before settling in Richmond, Virginia. There she met her future husband, Jesse James Pritchard. They were married in 1960 and raised six children together. Jesse was her husband until his death in 1994.
Loretta was a loving mother and a friend to many. She was also an avid reader, traveler and photographer known to have a special fondness for sunsets, landscapes and hummingbirds. Loretta will be remembered by many for her sense of humor, her generosity and her keen interest in just about everything. Loretta is survived by her mother Amanda; sisters, Edna & Corinne; children, Toni Cheryl, Jesse James, Shannon Wayne, Amanda Lynn, Eva Gail and Loretta Lea; as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Loretta was preceded in death by her father Philip; sister Agnes; and husband Jesse. A memorial service was held on May 28, 2007 (Memorial Day) at Ashworth Baptist Church in Princeton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, the National Audubon Society, or the National Arbor Day Foundation.

Col. (Ret.) William N. Quinn, son of the late Paul and Laura Hester Quinn of Shelby, N.C. died May 22, 2007 at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sara Simmons Quinn. He is survived by his daughters, Linda Hickman and husband, Bill Hickman, of Cary, N.C., Rosemary Bielejeski of Cary, N.C., and Billie Ventura and husband, Tony Ventura of Mechanicsville; grandsons, Joshua William Hickman, Matthew William Bielejeski and Michael Quinn Ventura; and cousins, Nancy McArthur and Dora Singleton of Shelby, N.C. He was a career Army officer who joined the NC National Guard in 1933 and then was called to active duty in September 1940 with Co. K, 120th Infantry, 30th Division. He was a battalion commander 397th Infantry, 100th Division in the invasion of southern France in 1944. After World War II, he was an ROTC instructor at Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. and a battalion commander in the 2nd Regiment, 5th Division at Ft. Jackson, S.C. During the Korean War he served as executive officer and then a battalion commander with the 32nd Infantry, 7th Division, participating in the Inchon landing and the march to the Yalu River. After the Korean War he served on the Army General Staff at the Pentagon, as an advisor to the Greek Army, instructor at the Infantry School at Ft. Benning, Ga., and Deputy Commander of the Infantry School Brigade at Ft. Benning, Ga., Post Commander, Camp Zama, Japan and Deputy Commander and Commander of XVI Army Corps at Omaha, NE. He was G-1, 18th Airborne Corps, Ft. Bragg, N.C. when he retired in 1969 after 37 years of service. During his career he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. Paul Wesley Snyder, 55, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2007, after a courageous battle with vascular disease. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Dolores Snyder. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Paige P. Snyder; his children, Beverly S. Foley and husband, Ben Foley, Jon-Paul P. Snyder; and v. Brooke Snyder; and his devoted dog, Kayla; sisters, Kathy S. Garrett and Karen S. Traweek; brother, Mike Snyder and wife, Georgia; also numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Paul graduated from the University of Richmond School of Business in 1974. He was passionate about history, reading and sports. He was a loving and devoted father, and his children’s number one fan. He loved watching them play baseball and softball. The family received friends Tuesday, May 22 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Wednesday. Interment private. Lloyd “Spitter” James Wade Jr., 82, passed away May 18, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Kirby Wade; son, Lloyd “Pete” James Wade III and wife, Lilly; daughters, Victoria “Vicky” Snellings Hitch and husband, Oliver, and Robin Wade Flora and husband, Tony; five grandchildren, Brandy Wade Morris, Ashley Renee Wade, Michael Anthony Flora, Tyler Wade Flora, and William Chase Flora; one sister, Dorothy Wade Snellings; and his special caregiver, Rebecca Goins. Mr. Wade was a member of the Richmond Homing Pigeons Racing Club, Sandston Moose Lodge No. 1937, and Wolrd Karters Association. He loved to raise and race pigeons and to race go-karts, winning many trophies and awards in both. He also was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Wade was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy. The family received friends Sunday, May 20 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. The funeral service for Mr. Wade was held Monday, May 21, at Nelsen Funeral Home, with interment following at Oakwood Cemetery.
