Betty Rhode Bosher, 75, of Mechanicsville, passed away May 30, 2007. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Bosher; and her son, Donnie Wayne Bosher. She is survived by her daughter, Shelly Leigh Bosher and her friend, Rick Bober; two grandsons, Kevin W. Bosher and his wife, Tina, and his stepdaughter, Katlyn, and Jeremiah D. Pritchard; three great-grandsons; two brothers, William S. “Bill” Hall and his wife, Susan and James E. Hall and his wife, Cathy; three sisters, Patricia Rhode, Della Burleson and her husband, Douglas, and Mary Harding and her husband, David; and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves her beloved neighbors, Berkeley and Bonny Campbell; and their children, B. Brock and Brandy. Betty was a longtime employee of McGeorge Toyota from which she retired in 1998. She belonged to the Hanover Senior Bowling League, where she loved spending time with her many wonderful friends. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 16, 2007 at Gethsemane Church of Christ. Fellowship to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the East Hanover Vol. Rescue Squad.

Elizabeth K. Cecil, 89, of Mechanicsville, passed away Friday, June 1, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Franklin Cecil Sr.; and a grandson, Thomas Franklin Cecil III. Mrs. Cecil is survived by a son, Thomas “Tommy” F. Cecil Jr.; three daughters, Evelyn Adams and husband, Franklin, Nadine Woods, and Janet Dunn and husband, Chucky; stepdaughter, Masiel Lamma; six grandchildren, Franklin Adams Jr., Michael P. Adams, Edward Dunn, Jamie Dunn, Timothy Bryan Cecil and Sarah Woods Wilson; four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Cody, Chase and Stone Adams. Mrs. Cecil was a member of New Bethesda Baptist Church, where she worked in the nursery for many years. The family received friends Sunday, June 3 and Monday, June 4 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5 at New Bethesda Baptist Church, 9019 New Bethesda Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. Interment church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105 or New Bethesda Baptist Church.

John D’Angelo, 49, of Mechanicsville died suddenly June 3, 2007 at home with his loving wife of 22 years by his side. Preceded in death by his father Frederick D’Angelo, Long Beach, New York. Police Officer and Firefighter. Survived by, his mother Dorothy D’Angelo of Island Park, NY Also survived by his wife Denine and their children: Fredrick, Marie, Gina, Serena, and Johnny D’Angelo. Dear Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and nephews, Jacob Warfield, Joseph Weber and sister-in-law Lori Russo.
John was employed by Advantage Sales and Marketing working on the Unilever Dedicated Retail Team.
John will be remembered by the many families of the men, women and children he refereed in ice and roller hockey as a member of USA Hockey, MLRH, RHOA, SHOA NCMACHOA, NIHOA, He is also remembered by the families and children and fellow umpires from Atlee Little League, Mechanicsville Little League, AAU, CUA
MROS, IND, ODUA, VHLBB and CUA.
After 16 years of Jesuit education at Long Beach Catholic School, Saint Pius Prep School and Marquette University, John put his education to work as a young journalist working at a Long Island weekly newspaper where he met his wife. John later became the public relations director for the March of Dimes, where he had a chance to interact with children and families for which he had a great deal of compassion.. He was able to bring happiness to them with his outgoing and quick witted fun personality, which he continued to do throughout his life. While working there John founded WheelAmerica, to give people with disabilities the chance to become active while helping others through their own strengths and pride of showing the community how capable they were in participating in the Wheelchair race event raising funds to help people like themselves. When it was time to move on John stood with his family watching a parade on Memorial Day, and lobbied for the job he wanted by holding up a sign reading “HIRE A PR PRO”. The City Council members took notice and John became the Public Relations Director for the City of Long Beach NY, the city by the sea, where he grew up and loved. John was an active member of the Long Beach Democrat club and a Long Beach Auxiliary Police officer. John goal tended on the NY Apple Core Men’s hockey team and the Park Ave Café Hokey Team. He coached the Long Beach High School Hockey Team, where he won coach of the year award. John also played softball in the men’s league in Long Beach NY.
In 1994 John and his family moved to Virginia and began work as the Public Relations director for the National Kidney Foundation, once again being helpful to families in need and bringing them his charismatic cheer. After two years he jumped at the chance to become the public relations director for “The Virginia Vultures,” a minor Roller hockey team that played their home games at the Richmond Coliseum, John had a lot of fun getting to work professionally in the atmosphere he enjoyed so much.
John continued to referee hockey and mentor his son Freddie to do the same. And later began to umpire baseball and softball, the game he also loved and knew so well. He stopped briefly for half a season after a heart attack and bypass surgery 2 years ago, then John was back umpiring and refereeing again. He enjoyed life to the fullest while touching so many on his path. Service was held on June 6 and 7 at Bennett Funeral home on Lee-Davis Road in Mechanicsville.

Hilda F. Dowdy of Henrico County, formerly of Clifton Forge, Va., went to be with her Lord on June 6, 2007. Born in Hinton, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Luther and Pearl Ferguson. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Nancy Joyce Dowdy and Patricia Lynn Dowdy; and former husband, Bill Dowdy; four sisters and one brother. She is survived by two daughters, Ginny Riddle and husband, Garnett, and Ann Anderson and husband, Les; two grandchildren, Elisa Anderson and Andrew Anderson; two step-grandchildren, Beth Speas and Budd Riddle; two brothers, Bob Ferguson of Chesterfield and Fred Ferguson of Vienna, W.Va.; also numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Dowdy was a volunteer at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Parham Campus, and numerous volunteer activities with the Kiwanis Club and special needs children programs while residing in Clifton Forge, Va. She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Williamsburg, Va. The family received friends Thursday, June 7 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Friday. Graveside services were held Saturday, June 9 at Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, Va. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Virginia, 7321 Forest Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226.

Joan Lee Carneal Regali, 73, of Sandston, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 7, 2007. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dolly Ellen Halm and grandparents, Erbert and Mamie Settles. Mrs. Regali is survived by her husband, Frank Regali, Jr.: one son, Frank Regali III and wife, Terri; one daughter, Patricia Talley and her husband, Danny; four gandchildren, Stephanie and Lindsey Regali, Steven and Jamie Hodges; and cousin, Marvin Weeks Michael. Mrs. Regali is a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, which she loved attending. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. So ending time with her family is what Joan cherished most.  

Floyd F. Steele Sr., USMC (Ret.), age 78, of Mechanicsville, died Thursday, June 7, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gladys T. Steele; his daughter, Dorothy S. DeJong; his son, Floyd F. Steele Jr. and his wife, Beth; four grandchildren, Jonathan Michael DeJong, Floyd F. “Trey” Steele III, Christopher Chase “Chasie” Steele and Katherine Elizabeth “Kate” Steele; one brother and four sisters. Mr. Steele retired from the U.S. Marine Corps after serving 21 years of active duty and nine years in the Reserve. He later retired after 23 years with Aero Industries. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 8580 Magellan Pkwy., Bldg. 4, Richmond, Va. 23227.

Taylor Anderson Towsey, born May 12, 1916, went to join Frances in their Heavenly Home on June 6, 2007. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife, Frances B. Towsey. He leaves behind his “Sweets”, Brenda Smith and her husband, Bill, and their three girls, Theresa Bryant, Elaine Seay, Shelby Jones and their families; his sister, Bertha Burke of Foxwells, Va.; brothers, Carlton F. Towsey, Raymond H. Towsey and wife, Betty; also lots of nieces and nephews and their families; a loving group of friends, the seniors of Shady Grove United Methodist Church where he was a member for 50 plus years. The family received friends Friday, June 8, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Graveside services were held Saturday, June 9 at Signal Hill Memorial Park.
