Violet I. Collins of Mechanicsville, formerly of Deltaville, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Raymond C. Collins; daughter, Christine Paul and husband, David; son, Stephen ‘Tracy” Hubbard and wife, Theresa; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Ashlee, Ryan and Cole; sister, Betty Ann Bizzell; brother, Herman Lacy Inge. A memorial service was held Wednesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., Mechanicsville. Interment private.
Jeanne Browning DuPree, 86, of Richmond, widow of Willis W. DuPree, passed away Monday, April 23, 2007. She was preceded in death by a son, William Thomas McMichael Jr. She is survived by a son, Wayne C. McMichael; daughter, Jeanne D. Hopkins and husband, Robert A. Hopkins; daughter-in-law, Gloria T. McMichael; 11 grandchildren, Lynne, Carlton and Tommy McMichael, Cathy Elrod, Scott and Keith McMichael, Crystal DeFruscio, Kimberly Rogers, Julie Hopkins, Kristy Evans, and Melanie Hopkins; also 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and cousins. She was a devoted and longstanding member of New Hanover Presbyterian Church. The family received friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, April 24 and 25, at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., and where services were held 11 a.m. Thursday. Thea Lynn Maki, age 57, daughter of H. Earl and Helen Foosness, born on January 1, 1950, died April 22, 2007 at her home after a lengthy battle with ovarian cancer. Born in Virginia, Minn., and graduated from the Roosevelt High School Class of 1968 in Virginia, Minn. She was preceded in death by her father H. Earl Foosness; and grandparents, Taimi and John Mattila, and Mary and Harold Foosness. She married Richard W. Maki Jr. on July 17, 1968 in Naples, Italy. She has lived in Mechanicsville, Va. for the past 33 years. She is survived by her husband, Richard W. Maki Jr.; daughter, Brook Lautenslager and husband, Andrew; mother, Helen Foosness of Virginia, Minn.; brother, Timothy Foosness and wife, Yolanda of Frederick, Md.; brother, Terence Foosness of Fredericksburg, Va.; sister, Trudy Santelli and husband, Terry of Virginia, Minn.; brother, Thomas Foosness and wife, Brenda of Virginia, Minn.; brother, Thad Foosness and wife, Claudia of Oklahoma City, Okla.; also numerous nieces, and nephews who always got a birthday card on their birthday. The family received friends 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Road, with a memorial service at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Interment private. Ordell P. Olson, 77, of Mechanicsville, formerly of Alexandria, Va., passed away Monday, April 23, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Olson; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Christine Olson; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and James L. Young III; grandson, James L. Young IV, all of Mechanicsville; sister, Janice Senler of Tinley Park, Ill.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Denler and Lou Ott of Bedford, N.H.; numerous nieces and nephews. The family received friends Monday, April 30 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. A memorial service was held Tuesday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, 8209 Meadowbridge Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. Rita M. Wilcox, 64, of Deltaville, Va., died Monday, April 23, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Donald Wayne Wilcox; two sons and their wives, Michael S. and Lisa M. Wilcox of Sandston, and David W. and Tracy W. Wilcox of Varina; four grandchildren, Kevin, Kari, Kathleen and Davis Wilcox; two sisters, Ronda M. Tatum (Ron) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Kay M. Burgess (Chris) of New Kent; two brothers, Howard H. “Buddy” MacDonald (Andi) of Mesa, Ariz., and F. Scott MacDonald of Old Church; her mother-in-law, Ruth J. Wilcox of Deltaville and New Kent; brother-in-law, Gerald D. Wilcox (Lois) of New Kent; five nieces and three nephews. The family received friends Wednesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26 at Sandston Baptist Church. Interment in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Highland Springs Church of Christ or Sandston Baptist Church.
Charles Edward Yaney, of Mechanicsville, passed away April 24, 2007 at 84 years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; son, Rusty; and sister, Alice. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Patty Harris of Marshfield, Mo., Mrs. Norma Enlow of Mt. Olive, N.C., and Mrs. Vera Hall of Reno, Nev. He is also survived by his daughter, Mary Brinn; son-in-law, Jeff Brinn; and grandsons, Cameron and Kyle Brinn. He will be remembered fondly as a loving father, brother, Papa and friend. He was a World War II veteran and went on to graduate from Arizona State University with a degree in mathematics. He worked overseas with the Army Air Corps and later became a principal engineer for Sperry Flight Systems. He loved hiking, boating and fishing and instilled in his children and grandchildren a great love and respect for nature. In retirement he hiked across the Grand Canyon twice and then on many trails in the mountains of New Mexico. In later years he enjoyed playing billiards and then bridge at Pole Green Park and Belmont Recreation Center. Words cannot express the void that is created by his passing. A memorial service was held 6 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road.
