Timothy J. Cridlin, 27, born July 20, 1979, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Kendra Tyree of Glasgow, Va.; a son, Tavaris J. Cridlin; his parents, Brenda and Jimmy Cridlin of Mechanicsville; sisters, Cheryl “Sherry” Yaklin and Jennifer Cridlin Martin; his best friend “Roxie”; grandmother, Revia Kramer of King William; nieces, Maddy, Chelsea, Brooke, Zoe and Kayla; nephews, Cody and Anton; his favorite mother-in-law, Sharon Tyree; sister-in-law, Shawna Tyree; also many aunts, uncles and cousins. “God gave us a special son, husband, daddy, and brother and the He called him home.” Timmy’s final wish was to have his organs and tissue donated and this has been carried out. The family received friends Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Thursday, May 17. Interment Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund for Timothy’s son, Tavaris, for his education in care of his family.
William Marshall “Bill” Butler Jr., 74, of Mechanicsville, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 15, 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents, William M. Butler Sr. and Margaret G. Butler. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joyce P. Butler; two sons, William Marshall Butler III and his wife, Kendal, and Randolph Hunter Butler; five grandchildren, Carrie, Brittany, Kenneth and Eric Bulter and Angie Robinson; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Butler was a member of Gideons International and Hanover Friends Church. The family received friends Wednesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Thursday, May 17. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover Friends Church Building Fund.
Everett “Jack” Edwards Jr., 62, of King William, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2007. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Patrick Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Frances B. Edwards; sons, Jason Edwards (Alta), Rhett Edwards (Jessie); daughters, Melissa Parks (Jason), and Kathryn Hall (Dallas); grandchildren, Nathan Edwards, Damien Edwards, Matt Edwards, Trevor Hall, Kelsey Hall, Tyler Hall, Andrew Edwards, Caroline Edwards and Trenton Hall. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. W. Clifford Hendrix for all of his care. The family received friends Monday Tuesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Wednesday, May 16. Interment followed at Jerusalem Christian Church, King William,Va.
John Hollis Flurry, 86, of Mechanicsville, went to Heaven after suffering a massive heart attack Tuesday, May 15, 2007. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Edith Perkins Flurry. Mr. Flurry was an Army veteran of World War II and was a life member of VFW Post 9808. He was also a member of Thomas N. Dale Lodge No. 351 AF & AM, Washington and Henry Lodge No. 344 AF & AM, and a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church for 47 years. The family received friends Wednesday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral services were held Thursday, May 17 at Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Interment in Riverview Cemetery.
Hugh D. Lipscombe, 85, of Mechanicsville, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Della H. Lipscombe of Mechanicsville; two daughters, Susan Bowlby and husband, Don of West Chester, Pa., and Janet Yeager of Bethlehem, Pa.; five grandchildren, Don Bowlby Jr. of Wilmington, Del., Jeff Bowlby of West Chester, Pa., Michael Yeager of Collegeville, Pa., Joseph Yeager of Collegeville, Pa., and Katharine Yeager of London, England; three great-grandchildren, Danielle and Timothy Bowlby and Matthew Yeager; stepdaughter, Patricia C. Clark and husband, James C. Clark of Sandston; two step-grandchildren, Trisha Jean King of Orange Springs, Fla., and Larry G. (Buddy) Williams II of Mechanicsville. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph E. Lipscombe, W. Edwin Lipscombe, Thomas F. Lipscombe, and a sister, Ruby Lipscombe Bosher. He was a member of Mechanicsville Church of Christ, where he served as Bible school superintendent, deacon, junior high Bible school teacher for 20 years, and church financial secretary for 17 years. He organized Lipscombe Service, Inc. in 1964, and served as chairman and president until he retired in January 1987. He was one of the organizers of the Peoples Bank of Hanover in 1971, and was a director and secretary/treasurer until the bank was sold to First Virginia Bank-Colonial in 1981. At that time, he was elected to the board of directors of First Virginia Bank-Colonial, where he served until he retired on December 31, 1986. He served on the board of directors of the Retail Merchants Association of Greater Richmond for 12 years. He also served as a member of Hanover County Community Service Board for six years, and chairman for two years. For 22 years, he was a member and chairman of the Hanover County Public Schools Special Education Advisory Committee. He was a charter member, past president and Paul Harris Fellow of the Hanover Rotary Club, and past president of the Hanover Ruritan Club, where he received the Community Service Award in 1976. He was past president of the Mechanicsville Businessmen’s Association, and a charter member, director and past president of the 100 Club of Richmond. He served in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific as a Battalion mail clerk for the 240th Engineer Combat Battalion. The family received friends Sunday, May 13, Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral services were held Monday, May 14, at Gethsemane Church of Christ, 5146 Mechanicsville Turnpike, where his father was a minister for 35 years. Burial followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mechanicsville Church of Christ Building Fund, 8067 Atlee Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111 or the East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 454, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.
Steven B. Pittman, 54, of Mechanicsville passed away Friday, May 11,
2007. Born September 24, 1952 in Charlottesville, he was the son of
the late Willie Pittman, Sr. and Mary Baker Pittman.
Mr. Pittman was employed with US Airways for 28 years as an airline
agent. Survivors include his children, Matthew Shifflett, Abigail Pittman,
Jacquelyn Pittman and Steven Pittman, Jr. all of Richmond. 2 brothers,
Willie E. Pittman, Jr. and Edward H. Pittman both of Charlottesville
and 1 sister Barbara Nunley of Brandon, FL.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the Hinton Ave
United Methodist Church, Charlottesville with Pastor Kerry Boggs
officiating. Interment followed at Monticello Memory Gardens. The
family received friends Wednesday at Hill & Wood Funeral
Home in Charlottesville. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made
to Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23226.

Edna Wright Powell, 92, of Mechanicsville, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Martin and her husband, Otis; three grandchildren, Tracy Thompson, Jennifer Wash and Air Force Tech Sergeant Scott Martin; six great-grandchildren, Logan and Kara Thompson, Sara Wash, Aaron, Brendan and Alyssa Martin; two sisters, Alice Peyton and Kitty Wheeler; two brothers, Dumpsey Wright and Leroy Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends at Christian Village. The family received friends Monday, May 14 at Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Tuesday. Interment Hanover Memorial Park.
