Nancy E. Burruss, departed this life to be with our Lord on Friday, June 29.  She is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis G. Burruss; three sons, Dennis “Denny” G. Burruss Jr. and his wife, Lisa, F. James “Jamie” Burruss and his wife, Holly, and Charles “Chuck” Evans Burruss; five grandchildren, Hannah Burruss, Logan Burruss, Dillon Burruss, Preston Burruss and Ella Burruss; and another grandson, Justin Childress; two sisters, Dale Evans and Theresa B. Love and her husband, Robert Love; two nephews, Justin T. Harlow and Kenneth N. Harlow; two nieces, Laura Ann E. Hobson and Stacey E. Metz; one sister in-law, Delores C. Evans.  She was preceded from this life by her mother, Jean Evan Burns; her father, Charles T. Evans; and her brother, Ronald E. Evans.  Her family received guest Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Graveside services were held Monday July 2, 2007 at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Thomas Head Clarke, 59, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 1, 2007.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lawrence M. Clarke Sr. and Cleo Head Clarke.  He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Judith Bradshaw Clarke; his two sons, T. Matthew and Daniel B. Clarke; and his brother, Lawrence M. Clarke Jr. and his wife, Carol; also several nieces and nephews.  Tommy was a longtime member of Cool Springs Baptist Church, and had served as choir director at both New Bridge and Black Creek Baptist Churches.  He was a musician who shared his passion by both performing and teaching.  His family received friends Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd.  Funeral services were conducted Thursday July 5, 2007 at Cool Springs Baptist Church, while the graveside service was conducted at Signal Hill Memorial Park.  Memorial contributions may be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church, 9283 Atlee Station Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.

Daniel (Danny) J. Johnson, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007.  He is survived by his wife, Susan K. Johnson; two sons, Daniel Mark Johnson and Tyler Christian Johnson; his mother, Helen M. Johnson; two sisters and spouses, Nancy (Joe) Spodaryk and Cheri (Tom) Wenczel; also several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his father, Charles F. Johnson.  His family received guest Thursday June 28, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd.  Graveside services occurred Friday June 29, 2007 at the Hanover Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover Humane Society, P.O. Box 111, Ashland, Va. 23005.

Gwendolyn Jenkins Lumpkin, age 70, of Mechanicsville, went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 29, 2007.  She is survived by her husband, Reuben Horace Lumpkin; daughter Maria Jan of Highland Springs; son, Ronald Scott and his wife, Cindy; three grandchildren, Travis, Morgan, and Logan, all of King William; sisters, Shirley Storms of Florida, Carole Talley and her husband, Wesley, Sandra Jenkins (widow of Lindy Jenkins), all of Mechanicsville; a host of nieces and nephews; and also her beloved dog, Panda.  Her parents were Richard Linwood and Mary Inez Henry Jenkins, now deceased.  She was a faithful member of Gethsemane Church of Christ.  She will be greatly missed by her devoted family and her many, many friends.  Among the things she enjoyed were her talent for baking and decorating cakes, volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital, being a dispatcher for East Hanover Rescue Squad, and singing with the “Sweet Adelines”.  The family received friends Saturday June 30, and Sunday July 1, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd.  The funeral service for Mrs. Lumpkin was held Monday, July 2, 2007 at the Gethsemane Church of Christ where she was also laid to rest in the church’s cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Gethsemane Church of Christ Building Fund or the R. Vitas Foundation (Hospice) c/o Becky Webb, 1100 Boulders Pkwy., Suite 601, Richmond, Va. 23225.

Denny Raye Miller, 40, of Mechanicsville, passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2007.  He was the son of Anthony Scott Miller and Anita Lacy Miller.  He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony S. Miller; and is survived by his children, Amber Rayelyn Miller and Kane Scott Miller; brother, Kenny S. Miller (Jocelyn); sister, Hyla F. Caton (Tony); nieces and nephews, Crystal M. Rodriguez, Kaleigh R. Miller, Jordan E. Miller, David S. Caton, Tyler J. Caton, Hunter C. Caton, and many aunts, uncles and cousins.  The family received friends Thursday July 5, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd.  Funeral services were also held Friday July 6, 2007 at Bennett Funeral Home with the graveside service occurring at Signal Hill Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund for Denny’s children, Amber and Kane Miller, c/o Kenny S. Miller, 7086 Mill Valley Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.

Elizabeth Pauline Morris, 72, of Mechanicsville, widow of James F. “Bud” Morris, passed away July 1, 2007.  Leaving a surviving brother, James Clarence Hall of Flint, Mich.; daughter, Deborah Brooks of Hanover; three sons, Barry Lee Morris, Richard Gayle Morris, and Shawn Paul Morris; seven granddaughters, and two grandsons.  The family received guest Tuesday July 3, 2007 and Wednesday July 4, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd.  Funeral services were also held Thursday July 5, 2007 at Bennett Funeral Home with the graveside service occurring at Signal Hill Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Rd., Suite 130, Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Newmyer, 86, of Mechanicsville, died July 1, 2007.  She is survived by her son Thomas and wife Terri; daughter Constance Harbert and husband William and two grandchildren, Sarah and Todd Harbert.  Mrs. Newmyer was native of Greensburg, PA and a local resident of Mechanicsville for 10 years.  She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Carl.  A memorial service was held Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Mechanicsville Baptist Church.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Odyssey Foundation for Hospice, 2810 North Parham Rd., Suite 150, Richmond, VA 23294 or Mechanicsville Baptist Church, 8016 Atlee Rd., Mechanicsville, VA 23111
