Beatrice E. Bolton, 75, passed away Jan. 3, 2010. She is survived by her husband Cliff Bolton of 53 beautiful years, daughters, Jeannette, Paula, Denise and Tammy, 3 sons-in-law, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, plus a host of family and friends. “You will be missed”. The family received friends on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010 at 1 p.m. Graveside services were held at Signal Hill Memorial Park.
Raymond Wade Davis Sr., 70, of Mechanicsville, departed this life Jan. 2, 2010 after battling cancer for the last 10 months. He was retired from Simplex Time Recorder Company, with 38 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Loving Davis; his son, Raymond Wade Davis Jr.; and granddaughter, Melissa Haley Davis; his daughter, Lisa Davis Dagenhart and husband, David Dagenhart Jr.; three grandkids, Casselyn Faith, Savannah Hope and David Ross Dagenhart III. The family received friends Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at Bliley’s - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road. A graveside service was held, Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Thomas Amos DeJarnette Sr., went to be with the Lord on Dec. 28, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Charlotte; children, Thomas Amos DeJarnette Jr. “Tad” and his wife, Pam; daughter, Amy Lorraine DeJarnette Caccia and her husband, Mike; and four grandchildren, Crosby DeJarnette, Jai DeJarnette, Courtney Caccia and Kimberly Caccia. He was a supervisor for Virginia Dairy, served in the U.S. Navy, was the first R.V. dealer in Richmond, sales manager for Wolverine R.V. manufacturer, served as deacon at Tabernacle Baptist Church and was also chairman of the Administrative Board. He later joined Cool Spring Baptist Church in Mechanicsville. He was rarely seen with anything but a smile on his face, and his smile was contagious. He will be greatly missed. We loved him deeply. He was the most wonderful husband and father to us. The family received friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009. Margaret W. Doswell, “Pie,” 89, of Glen Allen, entered into eternal rest on Jan. 2, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henley C. Doswell; and daughter, Vivian Susan Lickey. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia D. Perkinson and Margaret “Peggy” D. Morgan; two brothers, Pete V. Whitehurst of Salem and Alton E. Whitehurst of Montpelier; her sister, Vivian W. Marshall of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Jay Perkinson, Sheri Cogle, Michael Morgan (Dawn), Shawn Morgan (Tiffany), Staci Morgan, Lindsey Phipps (Aaron), Andrew Lickey (Karen); six great-grandchildren, Hartwell, Logan, Jessica, Ashby, Lucy, and Libby and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. The family received friends Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at Bliley’s-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where services were held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010. Rolland Palmer Doyle Jr., “R.P.”, 75, of Mechanicsville, died Dec. 29, 2009. He was employed by GRTC and James River Bus Lines. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Virgie Doyle; children, Rolland P. “Bobby” Doyle III, and wife, Susan, Mark Allen Doyle and wife, Vickie, Dawn Doyle Roberson and husband, Allen, and Barbara J. Doyle; his mother, Ethel Doyle; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brother, Walter “Bud” Doyle (Nancy); sisters, Ella Coonrod (Kenneth), Dianne Brooks (Thomas). He was preceded in death by his father, Rolland Palmer Doyle Sr.; brother, Earl Doyle; sister, Gloria Doyle Kenney. Garland Theodore Durvin, age 83, of Mechanicsville, passed away Dec. 31, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Verna Perry Durvin; a daughter, Marilyn D. Rogati (Pete); two sons, Ted Durvin (Barbara) and Hunter Durvin (Cathy); a sister, Margaret Humphries; a brother, Thomas Durvin; four grandchildren, Christina Robertson, Beth Durvin, Peter, and Ethan Rogati; and eight great-grandchildren. The family received friends Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 at the Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, where funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010. Thelma Lorraine Faulconer, 81, of Mechanicsville, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009. She is survived by three daughters/spouses, Dianne Faulconer, Wendy and Chuck Bowles, Faye and Jimmy Archer; one foster daughter, Kathy Short; six grandchildren, Robin Custalow, Kim Smith, Jason Bowles, Tommy Lloyd, Nichole Lloyd, and Landon Lloyd; seven great-grandchildren, Raleigh Custalow, Lili Custalow, Stuart Smith, Tyler Smith, Kaitlyn Smith, Isaac Bowles, and Ryan Bowles. Lorraine was a loving and caring woman who gave so many wonderful memories to her family and is cherished for being such a special mom. Her love for animals was well known, along with her tireless efforts to care for homeless animals. She operated her own Kennel/Clipping Parlor for years. A graveside memorial service was held Monday, Jan.4, 2010 at Signal Hill Memorial Park with Rev. James Bennett officiating. Mildred Weatherford Hensley, 78, of Walkerton, formerly of Highland Springs, widow of Lloyd W. Hensley Jr., passed away Dec. 31, 2009. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Gathercole (Ronnie) and Shirla Johnson, (Keith); one sister, Ophelia Maiden; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Remains rest at Bennett Funeral Home, Mechanicsville, where the family received friends Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 and where services were held Monday, Jan. 4, 2010. Graveside services were held in Washington Memorial Park.
Katherine Mitchell Hurt, “Kitty”, of Mechanicsville, passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 after a long, courageous two-year battle with cancer and the effects of whole brain radiation. Ms. Hurt, the daughter of the late Frank Mitchell Sr. and Annie LeSueur Mitchell, was born April 15, 1933 in Buckingham County and was a graduate of John Marshall High School. She began working at United Insurance Company at the young age of 16. One of her proudest accomplishments is the fact that she worked for them for 57 years, retiring as office manager, only when forced to by her illness. Kitty will always be remembered for her contagious laugh, her incredible work ethic, her independence and her undying devotion to her children. She is survived by her two daughters, Cathi Lynn Hurt and Cindi Hurt Crawford and her husband, Greg, all of Mechanicsville; two sisters, Lillian Dowdy of Sandston and Mary Jane Jones and her husband, Thurmon, of North Carolina; three brothers, Frank Mitchell Jr. of Sandston, Kenneth Mitchell Sr. and his wife, Margaret, of Mechanicsville, and Raymond Mitchell and his wife, Louise, of Quinton; and her precious granddaughter, Jessica Leigh Archer, of Mechanicsville. She is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family received friends at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010. A celebration of her life service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010 at Mechanicsville Baptist Church - time to be announced. Graveside services were held at Washington Memorial Park. Herbert T. Snoddy Jr., “Pat”, 58, of Ashland, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Sr. and Amy Snoddy; and a brother, William Snoddy. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter, Amy M. Parry and her husband, Nathan; two grandchildren, Luke and Carleigh Parry; also two sisters, Joyce Jones and Myra Jean Davis. Pat retired from the U.S. Post Office in 2009. He was a loving father and grandfather and was known as “Granddaddy.” He had a strong faith in God and was proud to be one of God’s own. The family received friends on Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 in the Nelsen Funeral Home Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Highway, Ashland. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010 at Rehoboth Baptist Church, 5904 Acquinton Church Road, King William, Va. 23086. Graveside services followed in the church cemetery. Shirley Ann Snyder, of Ashland, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Roy Snyder Jr.; son, Joey R. Snyder; and parents, Richard and Alma Carter. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She is survived by her son, Kenneth Snyder; granddaughter, Kelsey Snyder; daughter-in-law, Tina Snyder; special friend, James Arehart; as well as many other loving family and friends. Lillian Light Timberlake, 92, of Mechanicsville passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husbands, R. Byron Ogle, Henry Thomas and Temple Timberlake. She is survived by her son, Richard B. “Buddy” Ogle Jr. and his wife, Ginny; two grandsons, Scott and Mark Ogle; a sister-in-law, Mickey Skelton and her son, John Light. Mrs. Timberlake was a longtime member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. The family received friends on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010 in the Nelsen Funeral Home, Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland. Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 4, 2010 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church, Mechanicsville; graveside services were held in the church cemetery. Ailiene Dalton Yates, 84, of Mechanicsville, 35-year retired employee of C&P Telephone/AT&T, and one of the original members of “The Dingalings Social Club”, passed quietly away Dec. 31, 2009 under home hospice care and in the presence of her husband of 61 years, Donovan P. Yates Jr. and their married children, D.P.III (Joyce), Mark (Erline), Susan Y.Rinaldi (Paul). She leaves also, to her honor, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. There has been cremation, and a private memorial service and celebration of her life will be held later.
