Louise S. “Mary” Carneal, 95, of Mechanicsville, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 30, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Carneal; and is survived by two nieces, Frances West and Juanita Crouch; two nephews, Robert Jenkins and wife, Patty, and William Jenkins and wife, Kathy; as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews, and other family members. Mrs. Carneal was a retiree of the City of Richmond, and a longtime member of Northside Baptist Church. Family received friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., Tuesday, January 1, 2008 and where services were also held Wednesday, January 2, 2008. Graveside services were held Thursday January 3, 2008 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Nancy Lee Douglas, 58, of King William, Va., born as Nancy Lee Harrison, passed away as Nancy Lee Douglas on December 27, 2007. She is survived by her two children, Charles L. Bandy Jr. and wife, Lisa C. Bandy, and Crystal D. Grasberger; four grandchildren, Charles Bandy III, Ashley Grimm, Dustin Johnston and Austin Grasberger; her brother, Doug Goolsby of West Virginia; belated sister, Mary Anne Hyatt; and her belated mother, Ann Coleman. She was retired from American General Finance. She will be greatly missed and loved by everyone. A memorial service was held Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family received friends prior to service. Graveside services followed at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Karen Wishon Doumlele, 52, of Ashland, died Sunday, December 30, 2007. She was cafeteria manager with Rural Point Elementary School until her illness, and was lead singer with the band, Sierra. Surviving are her husband, Nicholas Anthony Doumlele Jr.; daughter, Katie Doumlele; son, Nicholas Anthony Doumlele III; stepdaughter, Amanda Atkinson; grandchildren, Jacob and Mary Katelynn; sisters, Brenda Agee and Judy Beasley; sister-in-law, Anastacia Rice. Services were held Thursday, January 3, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where the family also received friends Tuesday January 1 and Wednesday January 2, 2008. Graveside services were held at Signal Hill Memorial Park.
Charles Kennison Frise Sr., age 72, of Sandston, went to be with the Lord on January 4, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Lewis Frise; his sons, C. Kennison (Ken) Frise Jr. and wife, Nichole, Mark Lewis Frise and wife, Jennifer; grandsons, James Lewis and Caden Kennison Frise; a brother, H. Allen Frise and wife, Mickey; sisters, Beverley F. Sharp and husband, Jimmy, and Myra F. Westerman and husband, Ron; and several nieces and nephews. The family received friends Monday January 7, 2008 at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville . Funeral services were held Tuesday January 8, 2008 at Sandston Baptist Church. Graveside services held at Washington Memorial Park.
Frances Wilson Gatewood, passed away December 31, 2007 at the age of 87. She resided at Heritage Green Assisted Living in Mechanicsville, Va., since November 2004. She retired from Reynolds Metals of Richmond. She was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loveland Gatewood; and grandson, Kevin Gatewood. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and David Carter; and one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Pat Gatewood. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Lisa, Sarah and Rachel; and three great-grandchildren, Jarrett, Scott Jr. and Emmersyn; and her sister, Hattie Estis. Family received friends Wednesday January 2, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., and where services were held Thursday, January 3, 2008. Graveside services were held at Signal Hill Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Douglas C. Hensley Sr., 80, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, December 27, 2007. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Shrader. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bernadine Hensley; son, Douglas C. Hensley Jr.; two granddaughters, Erin Magruder (Robby) and Lisa Hensley (James Pickett); great-grandson, James Douglas Pickett; close friend, Cynthia Stolte; brother, Harry Hensley (Peggy); sister, Virginia Solsen (William); and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Hensley was a Navy veteran of World War II, and retired after 34 years of service with the Virginia Department of Transportation as a graphic artist. The family received friends Sunday, December 30, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where a funeral service was held Monday December 31, 2007. Lois Reeves “Frankie” Kirby, 79, of Mechanicsville, passed away December 26, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tazewell Ellis Kirby; and is survived by her loving companion, Jim Aigner; three daughters, Rebecca Rao and husband, Chuck, Ginger Redmond and husband, Jimbo, Marcia Kirby and husband, Ray Heath; seven grandchildren, Thomas Rao and wife, Julie, Jason Lewis and wife, Sarah, Carla and Sara Rao, Shannon Ratliff and husband, Doug, Joey Redmond and wife, Jennifer, and Ray Heath Jr. and wife, Karen; one brother, Melville Reeves and wife, Susie; nine great-grandchildren, Tristan, Cameron, Billy Lewis, Samantha Rao, Branden Graham, Jordon, Kaya Redmond, Lauren and Dalton Ratliff. Frankie was born in Eastland, Tenn. on October 2, 1928, and later moved to Dothan, W.Va., where she attended Oakhill High School. She moved to Richmond in 1946 and graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. Family received friends Friday, December 28, and Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral services were held at the Mechanicsville Chapel Sunday, December 30, 2007. Graveside services held at Signal Hill Memorial Park. Murrill Wood Thomas, 81, lost his battle with leukemia on Wednesday, January 2, 2008, in Sentara Obici Hospital. Born to a family of nine, he was the son of the late Edna Missouri and Harry M. Thomas and was born on June 7, 1926 in Norfolk, Va. Serving some six years in the US Navy and during WWII, Murrill traveled the world. Australia was his favorite assignment. In 1956, Murrill married Bernice Claudia Hayes. Working with VEPCO, he moved his family all over Virginia. He worked as a lineman and ended his career in 1985, and retired as superintendent of Training and Education, with 38 years of service. Living in Richmond (Mechanicsville) from 1975-1984, he and his family have resided in Isle of Wight County for some twenty-three years. In addition to his wife of 52 years, Bernice, Murrill is survived by his daughter, Bobbie Jean Miles and her husband, David, of Mechanicsville; three granddaughters, Amy Musick and her husband, Billy, of Surry, Kristie Lee Miles and Melinda Sue Miles, both of Mechanicsville; sister, Florence Frazier and husband Otto of Virginia Beach; and great-grandchildren, Dallas and Maranda. A Life Celebration Service, officiated by Sheriff Charlie Phelps, was conducted Saturday, January 5, 2008 in Colonial Funeral Home. The family received friends following the service in the funeral home. Graveside services private. Arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. Adelaide Flint Turbyfill, 76, of Mechanicsville, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007. She was the widow of Wayne Turbyfill. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Kathy A. and Dean A. Crews of Chesterfield; daughter, Sherry Prince of Florida; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Jessica and Michael Rilee; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Noel; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Gertrude Flint; and nephew, Jeff Flint, all of New Mexico; and companion, Herbert Bowles. Services were Saturday, December 29, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Graveside services were private.
