Calvin Silvera Brown, of Mechanicsville, Va. departed this life Jan. 17, 2008. He is survived by wife, Lorna; sons, Lorvin and Kurtvin, Daren Hall and wife, Michelle; brothers, Egbert and wife, Verona, Neville and Reginald of Jamaica, W.I.; sisters, Daisy Lovelace and husband, Irvington, Alzie Duncan and husband, Harvel, Phyllis Henry and husband, Ronald, and Gloria; grandson, Shane; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Mr. Brown was employed at Westbury Pharmacy Deli and formerly at Home Depot in Mechanicsville. The family received friends at Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., Mechanicsville on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008 at First Union Baptist Church, 6231 Pole Green Rd., Mechanicsville. Graveside services followed in the church cemetery. Clayton Millard Frank, 96, of Mechanicsville, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Eula V. Frank. He retired from civil service, and was a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and Acca Temple. He is survived by a daughter, Nada F. Askew of Mechanicsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen F. Lee and Pete Lee of Stafford; four grandchildren, Nancy Sheleheda, Jason Askew, Frank Lee and Rachel Krushinski; eight great-grandchildren. Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Graveside services were held at Signal Hill Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hanover Rescue Squad.

Margaret Newton Henry, 98, of Mechanicsville, widow of Patrick B. Henry, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008. She is survived by a son, Joseph F. Henry and his wife, Joanne R. Henry of Mechanicsville; two granddaughters, Janet H. Gibson and her husband, David W. Gibson, and Diane H. Edwards; grandson, Roger P. Henry and his wife, Lisa; four great-grandchildren, Jason S. Ervin, John David Gibson, Heather E. Silva and Ryan P. Henry; and a great-great-grandson, Wyatt S. Ervin; and a half-brother, Franklin Newton. She was a member of Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, also a member of Chapter #138 OES. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Heritage Green Assisted Living and Odyssey HealthCare for the love and professional care provided by them. The family received friends Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. A funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008 at Broadus Memorial Baptist Church, 5351 Pole Green Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116. Graveside services were held at Westhampton Memorial Park. Charles Franklin Lambeth, born April 8, 1913, died peacefully Jan. 16, 2008. He is survived by his four beloved children, Tom Lambeth, Chuck Lambeth, Patty Hundley, Jane Fulcher and husband, John. He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Lil McGrath. Mr. Lambeth was a Captain in the Army Air Corps during WWII, serving as a glider pilot supplying fuel to General Patton’s Army in the European Theatre. He was a member of Richmond Lodge #10 AF & AM, Richmond East Moose Lodge #1947 and VFW post 9808. The family received friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008. Graveside services were held Friday, Jan.18, 2008 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte, N.C.

Charles Calvin Lipes Sr. , 63, of Glen Allen, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008. He was a member of Enon United Methodist Church and was retired. Surviving are his wife, Carol Faye Lipes; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles C. Lipes Jr. and Lori of Mechanicsville, Chris Tinsley (Lipes) and Lisa of Richmond; five grandchildren, Alysa, Cameron, Carson, Kaleigh, Alicen. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eddie Harvey and Robert Lee, both of Eagle Rock, Va. Surviving are his brothers and sisters, Shirley Carr, Lewis Lipes, Albert Lipes, Virginia Robertson, Jerry Lipes, Bobby Lipes, Barbara Kleinfelter, Gene Lipes and Ray Lipes. Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2008. at Enon United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held at Signal Hill Memorial Park. The family received friends Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. Memorial contributions may be make to the American Cancer Society or Enon United Methodist Church.

Tracy F. Smith, 39, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008. She is survived by her three children, Jamie Conway, Troy Lee Conway and Anna Marie Conway; father, Gene Franklin; mother, Laurie Brugnoli and husband, Bill; brother, David Scott Franklin and wife, Diana, and their children; sister, Tracey Brugnoli; biological mother, Nancy Cullom; as well as many other family and friends. Tracy was an employee of Pence Chrysler of Ashland. The family received friends Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where a memorial service was held Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008. William “Billy” Nolan Smith, 44, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Shelby P. Smith; his father, William Lee Smith; one brother, Charles C. Smith; two sisters, Laurie E. Smith and Pamela K. Smith. The family received friends Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. A memorial service was held Monday, Jan. 21, 2008 at Salem Presbyterian Church, Studley, Va.

Alma W. Stewart, 93, a resident of Heritage Green at Hanover, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ephram F. Stewart; and her parents, D.C. (Curtis) and Theresa Kennedy Walker of Eden, N.C. She is survived by three sisters, Helen Hancock of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla., LaVonne Hall and Lucille Simpson of Eden, N.C.; four brothers, Raenard and Raeford Walker of Colonial Heights, Lawrence Talley of Eden, N.C. and Leon Walker of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; also several nieces and nephews. The family received family and friends Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral Service were held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008. Graveside services were held at Washington Memorial Park.

Eugene Roy Taylor, 83, of Mechanicsville, passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Juanita I. Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Dale and Paul B. Michelle III; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Harlan and Brad Michelle, all of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, William Guy Taylor and wife, Eva; sister, Virginia Whisler; also several nieces and nephews. Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and retired from the American Tobacco Company Research and Development Lab after 40 years of service. The family received friends Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. A Memorial Service was held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008 at New Hanover Presbyterian Church, 10058 Chamberlayne Rd. Graveside services private.

Kenneth Ray Via Jr., 57, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008. He was born in Hanover, Va. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth R. Via Sr.; and brothers, Larry Michael Via and John Gilson Via. He is survived by his wife, Kim G. Via; his mother and stepfather, Mary Eleanor and Melvin Tate; his sons, Travis Dwayne, Justin Courtney Via and his wife, Sarah; and stepchildren, Stephanie and Raymond Runyon; four sisters and their spouses, Mary and Rick Britton, Sharon and Steve Powell, Paula and Tim Fearnow, Beth and Michael Grimesey; three grandchildren, Trevor, Darin and Kyndall; and 21 nieces and nephews. The family received friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008. Services were held Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008.
