Jerry Allen Beahr, 54, of Richmond, left to be with the Lord and reunite with his beloved sisters, Barbara Beahr Carter and Diane Gail Stanley, on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008. He was an avid fisherman, as well as a talented gardener. He had faith in the Lord and enjoyed the simple things in life. He is survived by his three brothers and their wives, Jack and Ida Beahr, David and Anne Beahr and Wayne and Patricia Beahr; brother-in-law, Ellison Stanley; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. His stories and laughter will be greatly missed. The family received friends Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., and where funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 15, 2008. Grave side services were held at Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery, Mechanicsville, Va.
Mattie Delilah Barnette Clawson, age 90, of Mechanicsville, passed away Feb. 6, 2008 at Heritage Green Assisted Living. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Leslie Clawson. She is survived by a daughter, Anita Madison and son-in-law, Charles; two granddaughters, Patti Utley and Trudi Brown and husband, Rick; three great-grandchildren, Christopher Utley, Kristen and Rachel Brown; three sisters, Pearl West, Annie Cowardin and Audrey Milby. The family wishes to thank Heritage Green and Odyssey Hospice for their loving care and support. The family received friends Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008. Graveside services were held in Salem Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Darin James Hebert, 39, born Aug. 3, 1968 in Morgan City, Louisiana, departed this earth on Feb. 13, 2008 in Mechanicsville. He graduated from Lafayette High School, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1994. He is survived by, and was the son of, Carol T. Sincox and Mr. and Mrs. James Hebert. He was the grandchild of Mrs. Lillie Hebert and the late Bernie J. Hebert, and the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert C. Tompkins. He was also the brother of Julie Smith, Connie Sonnier, Byron Sincox, Seth Hebert, and B.J. Hebert; and special friend, Leah Arcenaux. Darin was a person who left a mark on everyone he met and had many, many friends. He was a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews who loved him very much. We will miss you deeply, but one day we will be together again, “Deeda”. You are gone but never forgotten. Funeral services were held in Louisiana for immediate family members on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008. A celebration of his life was held Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville.
Mary Lois Overcash Remnet, 73, of Mechanicsville, and formerly of Portsmouth, died Feb. 8, 2008, in her daughter’s home. She was born in Statesville, N.C., and was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Overcash. Mary was the widow of Harry Jackson Remnet Sr. She was a member of Cradock Presbyterian Church and the choir, and was a graduate of Cradock High School, Class of 1952. She retired from NAVSEACENLANT and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the local chapter of Parents Without Partners. Mary is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Meador and husband Lin of Mechanicsville; a son, Harry Jackson Remnet Jr. of Portsmouth; a sister, Frances C. Ward of Suffolk; four grandsons, Bryan, Matthew, Josh and Ben; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, James Gray “Buddy” Overcash. A funeral was held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008, in Cradock Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Donald E. McLean Jr. and the Rev. Richard Lovingood. Graveside services followed in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family received friends at Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Hwy. Chapel, Friday, Feb. 15, 2008. Joan Elaine Tate Slaughter, 69, of Mechanicsville, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008. She was preceded in death by her father, William James Tate, Sr. Surviving her are her mother, Elsie A. Tate, her brothers, Earl Tate, Jimmy Tate and his wife Kathy, all of Mechanicsville; nephews, Todd and Adam, and niece, Tracy. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements made by the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home.
Annie Mae Wheeler, 82, of Mechanicsville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 16, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph C. Wheeler; her parents, Clara V. and John W. Childress; her brother, Earnest F. Hatcher. She is survived by her son, William L. Spangler and wife, Carol A. Spangler; a beloved sister, Doris H. Shufflebarger and husband, Andrew of Richmond; two brothers, Buford W. Childress and wife Maxine of Huron, Ohio, and John L. Childress and wife, Naina of Kingston, Tennessee; four grandchildren, W. Bryan Spangler, Deborah M. Spangler, John W. Spangler and wife, Amy, and Elizabeth A. Haile and husband, Michael; five great-grandchildren, J. Travis Spangler, Lindsay N. Spangler, M. John Haile Jr., Mackenzie G. Spangler and Ashley E. Haile; and three step great-grandchildren, Taylor C. Kidd, W. Raelyn Newsome, and Samuel J. Newsome. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wheeler was a longtime employee and retiree of A.H. Robins. The family received friends Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008. Graveside services followed at Signal Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
