Geneva F. Baldwin, 83, of Henrico, passed away on March 2, 2010 at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Baldwin. She is survived by four children, James Bowen, Russell Baldwin, Wayne Baldwin, and Barbara Leach, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Graveside services were held Friday, March 5, 2010, at Washington Memorial Park, Sandston Va.
Roy Lee Blizzard, 53, of Mechanicsville, died March 2, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Debbie; two daughters, Vicky and Kristy; one granddaughter, Skye; and future son-in-law, Eric; his mother, Joyce Blizzard; and numerous brothers and sisters. Bryana Nichole Burton, infant daughter of Kelly Nichole Burton, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 4, 2010. She is survived by her maternal grandparents, Wendy and Gary Kemp of Chester; and Ronnie “Doc” and Susan Burton of King William; great-grandmother, Evelyn Burton; and great-grandparents, Ruth and Billy Warner of Hanover; uncle, Tommy Burton; godmothers, Christina Campfield and Caitlyne Holland; and many other beloved family. The family received friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., Sunday, March 7, 2010. Graveside services were held Monday, March 8, 2010 at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester.
Anne Durrette Butler, 78, passed away Feb. 28, 2010. She was the widow of Kenneth Butler. She is survived by sons, Kurt (Linda) and Marc (Virginia); daughter, Karen; grandchildren, Erica, Kyle and Rachel; brothers, Jimmy and Tommy Durrette; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Born in Varina, she lived her adult life in Hanover and New Kent. She was an active part of the family business and a longtime member of Old Ivy Garden Club and Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. The family received friends Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Bennett Funeral Home in Mechanicsville. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 5, 2010, at Bennett’s. Graveside services were held at Signal Hill. A reception was hosted by her friends at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 2446 Old Church Road, following the burial. Donations may be made to the Bethlehem Building Fund.
David Harding Charlesworth, of Richmond, died March 2, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Frances Batte Charlesworth; one sister, Anna Mae Schell of Marklesburg, Pa. He was the son of the late James Charlesworth and Martha Charlesworth John. He was raised in Connellsville, Pa. and attended Bethany College, Bethany, W.Va. For years he was a choir director, tenor soloist and choir member. While living in Jacksonville, Fla., he was a vestryman at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He spent 40 years in the glass container business in quality control management and retired from Anchor Hocking Glass Company. He was a communicant at Trinity Episcopal Church and belonged to Manchester Lodge #14. A private graveside service will be at Blandford Cemetery. Barbara Duke Chisholm, 66, of Ashland, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2010. She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Ray Duke. She is survived by her sons, Howard Luck of Arlington, James A. Chisholm Jr. and his wife, Angela; a sister, Florence I. Duke; two grand godsons, Dmitriy and Vadim Jenkins of Washington, D.C.; devoted friends, Patricia Hall and family; her canine companion, Bear; and also other loving family and friends. The family received friends on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in the Nelsen Funeral Home-Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va. A celebration of her life was held Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Forest Grove United Methodist Church. Graveside services followed in the church cemetery. Norman Coleman, 96, of Ashland, departed this life March 5, 2010. He was preceded in death by his son, Neverette Coleman. He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife, Alease Coleman; three daughters, Susie Woodard (Rev. Dennis), Alease Dickerson (Warren Jr.) and Rev. Kate Mason (Rev. Marvin); three sons, Rev. Irvin, Louis Sr. (Doris) and Eugene (Deborah); nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. Family received friends at March Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where a viewing was held Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Funeral services were held, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in Brown Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Darius Beechaum officiated. Graveside services were held Roselawn Memory Gardens.
Barbara M. Commins, age 76, of Mechanicsville, entered eternal rest March 4, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Beverly H. Commins; in addition to her brothers, Merritt H. and Charles H. Mayo; and her sister, Louise M. Critzer. She is survived by her son, Michael J. Commins of Mechanicsville; her daughters, Beverly Michele Commins of Cary, N.C., and Mellanie C. Farnsworth (Michael) of Mechanicsville; two grandchildren, Beverly Alexandra Farnsworth and Peyton Hugh Farnsworth, also of Mechanicsville; a sister, Evelyn M. Reiley (Kenny) of Charlottesville; three brothers, Marion H. Mayo (Bette) of Charlottesville and Bobby “BG” Mayo (Shirley), also of Charlottesville, James A. Mayo (Jean) of Schuyler; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara was a graduate of the St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing and was a devoted nurse for over 46 years. Her love of nursing was shown in her compassion for her patients. After her retirement, she continued her passion for nursing with Tucker Cardiology. The family will receive friends Friday, March 12, 2010 4 to 8 p.m. with reception at the Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Pkwy., Mechanicsville, where a celebration of her life will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Susan G. Jeff S. Dahmen, of Glen Allen, passed away Feb. 25, 2010. He is survived by his son Jamie S. Vernon Walker McKendree, age 93, of Glen Allen, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010. He is survived by Hazel, his wife of 61 years; his daughter, Cary Newman, her husband, Mike; and his granddaughter, Elizabeth Pickerel. Vernon was proud of his military service which included four years in the United States Navy Reserve. He then joined Gen. Chennault’s 14th Air Force Flying Tigers and served in China during WWII. Vernon worked for Markel Service for 52 years and retired as Vice President of Safety Engineering. He was a Master Mason of the Thomas N. Davis Lodge in Richmond for over 50 years and was a Major in the Virginia Defense Force. Mr. McKendree was a volunteer at the Science Museum of Virginia and also volunteered for many years at what is now Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Parham. He was most proud of being the first recipient of the Frist Humanitarian Volunteer Award presented by the hospital in 2002. In keeping with Vernon’s wishes, services will be private. Cecile Alexander Moore, 74, of Hanover, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. She was a longtime member of Gethsemane Church of Christ. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by her husband, M.A. “Buddy” Moore Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Marlowe and her husband, L. Bland Marlowe Jr.; and a granddaughter, Lauren Alexander Marlowe. The family wishes to thank her church family for their devotion and faithful service to her during her illness. Elizabeth Baldwin Hazelgrove Owen, 89, of Ashland, the widow of John H. Owen, passed away on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. She is survived by a daughter, Carol O. Outten and husband, Capt. Milton A. Outten, USN (Ret.); two sisters, Ann H. Scott and Nadine H. Garbett; a sister-in-law, Maxine H. Hazelgrove; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Outten Rafferty and husband, Ryan, and Sarah Owen Outten. Mrs. Owen was a member of First Baptist Church, Ashland, and the Friendship Class. She retired after 39 years of service at Randolph-Macon College. Mrs. Owen and her husband, John, were charter members of the Hanover Country Club. The family received friends on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in the Nelsen Funeral Home - Reid Chapel, 412 S. Robert Lee Pendleton, “Bob”, 76, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord Monday, March 1, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Terry Hall and husband, Jay; grandson, Casey; granddaughter, Morgan; and sister, Doris Napier. Bob was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. After retiring from the American Tobacco Company, Bob started his own business as a painting and wallpaper contractor and was well known as a perfectionist. His hobbies included fishing, dancing and performing magic tricks. Geraldine A. Pollard, 79, passed away on Feb. 27, 2010 after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald of 50 years and brother, Gary L. Zimmerman. She leaves behind a loving family of two daughters, Susan Wilburn and Cheryl Peek; two sons-in-law, Steve Wilburn and Pete Peek; granddaughter, Dawn Wilburn; and brother, Alfred “Punky” Zimmerman Jr. Originally from Findlay, Ohio, she met her late husband in Walter Reed Hospital during the Korean War while he was convalescing from a war injury. She spent most of her working career and retired from Defense General Supply Center as a cataloger after 30 years of service. She was a long time member of the Meadowbridge Seventh Day Adventist Church. She will be remembered by many for her loving smile, crazy crochet work and love of traveling. She was a lifelong Redskins fan attending many games including a super bowl to cheer them on. Rather than a graveside service or flowers, the family request donations be made to the Humane Society or East Hanover Fire Fighter and Rescue Squad.
Virginia Reed, 85, of Glen Allen, passed away March 4, 2010. She was the widow of W. Wallace Reed and is survived by two daughters, Nancy Butler (Joe) and Judy Tolley; a son, Gary Reed (Mary); four grandchildren, Patricia Elder, Tammi Butler, Melissa Watson and Jason Reed; five great-grandchildren, three brothers and two sisters.
