Ollie S. Bentley, 90, of Mechanicsville, widow of Worley T. Bentley, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin D. and Laura Parsons Sharpe; son, William Worley Bentley; and brother, Jimmy T. Sharpe. She is survived by a son, J. Tracey Bentley; two grandchildren, Christopher Bentley of Appleton, Wis., and Erin Aragan of Carlsbad, N.M.; and five great-grandchildren. The family received friends Monday, March 17, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., and where funeral services were held Tuesday, March 18, 2008. Graveside services followed at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in her name to the American Heart Association.

E. Walker Cosby, 86, of Mechanicsville, passed away March 15, 2008. He was the widower of Annie B. Cosby. He is survived by his son, Gerald W. Cosby; his sister, Susie C. Durvin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Cosby was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from Reynolds Metals after 40 years of service. The family received friends Monday, March 17, 2008 at Bliley’s- Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A graveside service was held Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Charlotte Jones Ward, wife of Dr. Earl W. Ward (brother of Jack Ward, Mechanicsville), passed away March 19, 2008 at her home in Seaford, with her family, friends and dog by her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Nellie Jones of Richmond; brothers, Arthur and Edward Jones; and her daughter, Joan Listen Ward. She is survived by her husband of 57 years; her daughter, Earline Ward Thomas; grandchildren, Hillary and Brian Thomas; brother, John Jones of Richmond; and nephews and nieces. Mrs. Ward was born in Richmond in 1922. Upon her husband relocating his dental office from Gloucester to Newport News in 1955, she assumed the position of receptionist until they retired in 1984 to Seaford (York County). The Wards were members of the First United Methodist Church in Newport News. A kind and gentle soul, she will be missed by all who knew her. The family received friends two hours prior to the service at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, where funeral services were held Saturday, March 22, 2008. Graveside services were held at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 800-272-3900, or the First United Methodist Church of Newport News Foundation, 10246 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23601.

Eva Dix Watkins, went home to Jesus at the age of 97 on March 19, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. B. Watkins; and one grandson, Steven A. Watkins. She is survived by her son, W. Bruce Watkins Jr. and his wife, Pat; three grandchildren and their spouses, David and Carol W. Welch, Mark and Christine Watkins, Tommy and Lori W. Brannock; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Watkins; 11 great-grandchildren; one goddaughter, Edna Roberts; god grandsons, Michael Kelley and his wife, Jayne, and David Kelley; and a god great-grandson. The family receive friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Friday March 21, 2008. Graveside services were held Saturday March 22, 2008 at Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vessels of Mercy International, 2532 Thicket Green, Richmond 23233.
