Miss Alice Martha Overbey, 96, of Mechanicsville, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Lillian F. Overbey. She was a resident of Covenant Woods, and a member of Central United Methodist Church. She is survived by a sister, Labenda Overbey; and several nephews. The family received friends Thursday, March 27, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Friday, March 28, 2008. Graveside services followed in Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covenant Woods, 7090 Covenant Woods Dr., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.

Lorraine Lazzuri Peay, 68, of Richmond, passed away March 17, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer and liver disease. She was a devoted wife and mother whose pride in her children was equaled only by her love for her husband, Durward. She was preceded in death by her husband, Durward Elmore Peay. She is survived by her children, Tony Peay and his wife, Cecelia, Linda Dale and her husband, Bill, Richard Peay and his wife, Alice, and Maria Rondeau and her husband, Mike, all of Richmond; her brother, Caesar Lazzuri and his wife, Jackie; her brother, Michael Lazzuri and his wife, Glada; her brother-in-law, Garland Peay and his wife, Nancy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, whom she cherished greatly, Angela, Brian and Melissa Peay; Erica and Nicholas Dale; Alex, Madison and Taylor Peay; Shane Thompson; Bronson and Mia Rondeau; and a host of nieces and nephews. Lorraine was born in Richmond, and attended St. Patrick’s High School, where she graduated in 1957 as Valedictorian. She recently celebrated her 50th year reunion with her classmates, who were so dear to her heart. Upon graduation, Lorraine worked for Lazzuri Tile, her father’s tile and marble company. She met the love of her life and favorite dance partner, Durward, soon thereafter and they were married in 1958. In 1964, they moved to Tappahannock, Va. where they lived and raised their family. In 1972, she went to work for Southside Bank, where she worked until the family returned to Richmond in 1981. From 1981 until her retirement, she worked for Drs. Burch, Meyers, Day and Loving, a pediatric group. She devoutly cared for Durward as he suffered with Alzheimer’s disease until his death in 2004. The family received friends Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Bliley’s-Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd. A Christian Wake was held Wednesday, March 19, 2008. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church with interment to follow in Signal Hill Memorial Park, 12360 Hanover Courthouse Rd. Linda M. Pendergast, age 59, of Mechanicsville, passed away March 22, 2008.  She is survived by her husband John R. Pendergast, son, Greg Pendergast his wife Sybil, grandson, Phelan, stepdaughter, Wendy Smith and her family.  She is also survived by her sister, Jean M. Spicer, brother, Newton Mathews, nephew, Keith Spicer, niece, Lori Martin and her husband Jerry, and great nieces, Taylor and Hannah.  The family received friends on Monday, March 24, 2008, at the Atlee Chapel,Woody Funeral Home, Rt. 301 and Shady Grove Rd. Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Gethsemane Church of Christ Cemetery, 5146 Mechanicsville Turnpike. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Etsuko Yotsumoto Phillips, 76, wife of Edward L. Phillips Jr., died on March 22, 2008 in Richmond. She was born in Kogoshima, Japan in 1931 and married in Tokyo, Japan in 1970. Etsuko is survived by a sister, Urako Nakajo; and two brothers, Toshio Nakajo and Yasuyuki Nakajo of Fukuoka, Japan. Etsuko was an active member of Ikebana of Richmond for many years. The family received friends Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. Graveside services were held Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Hanover Memorial Park, Mechanicsville. In lieu of flowers, donations to establish a memorial in the Japanese Gardens at Maymont may be sent to Diane Flanagan at 5049 Nantucket Court, Colonial Heights, Va. 23834.

Audrey Arlene Lemon Respess, 72, of Mechanicsville, passed away March 24, 2008. She leaves behind a loving family, including a son, Larry Borkey and wife, Susan; a daughter, Vickie Campbell and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Kelly, Hannah and Travis; sisters, Ruth Shelor and Geneva Ewers; and brother, Ed Lemon; their families, and many other friends and extended families. The family would like to express their gratitude to Bon Secours Hospice. The family received friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., on Thursday, March 27, 2008. Services were private. Mrs. Mary Lou Bowles Young, 69, of Stokesdale, N.C., died Tuesday March 25, 2007 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. Mrs. Young’s funeral was held on Friday, March 28, 2008 at the Bennett Funeral Home, Hanover Chapel, in Mechanicsville. Burial followed in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond. A native of Hanover County, Mrs. Young was born on Dec. 20, 1938, daughter of the late Henry G. and Mary Mae Mosher Bowles. She was a longtime member of Bellwood Baptist Church in Richmond, and was involved with the Baptist Christmas Store there for over 20 years. Surviving are her husband, Robert Allan “Bob” Young of the home; four children, Joey Young of Stokesdale, Jason Allan Young and his wife, Hollie, of Cumberland, Danny Tomlin of Richmond, and Randy Tomlin and his wife, Becky, of Stuarts Draft, Va.; a sister, Barbara Jean Tate and husband, Shirley, of Ashland; grandchildren, Declan Lewis Young, Samantha Tomlin, Timothy Tomlin and Ashley Tomlin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Mae Timberlake; and three brothers, Melvin, Brotus, and Elvin Bowles. Memorials may be made to the Christmas Store, Bellwood Baptist Church, 9138 Quinn Ford Boulevard, Richmond, Va. 23237.
