Linwood Ernest Cosby, 74, passed away peacefully into the arms of his Lord surrounded by his family on Friday, April 4, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Eileen; three daughters, Lynnette Nelson and her husband, Bill, of Varina, Denise Dowdy of Highland Springs, and Bonnie Gagermeier and her husband, Ed, of Annandale; seven grandchildren, Stephanie and Sara Beth Nelson, Amber and Cody Dowdy, and Abby, Lauren, and Trey Gagermeier. Linwood is also survived by his brother, Ralph H. Cosby and his wife, Faye, of Mechanicsville; two sisters-in-law, Betty Cosby of Richmond and Dot Cosby of Mechanicsville; a mother-in-law, Arlie Cockram of Martinsville; a brother-in-law, Lane Cockram of Martinsville; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was a member of Shalom Baptist Church for over 30 years, where he served as Deacon, Property Committee Chairman and Sunday school teacher for the Mitchell Bible Class for over a decade. He was also a member of the North Richmond American Legion Post 38. The family received friends on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Bennett Funeral Home in Mechanicsville. Additional visitation was held at Shalom Baptist Church prior to the services. Funeral services were held on Monday, April 5, 2008 at Shalom Baptist Church, 6395 Mechanicsville Turnpike, with Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Graveside services were held at Washington Memorial Park in Sandston. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association or the Shalom Baptist Church Building Fund.
Tammy Cramer “Sissy” Tatum, 29 of Quinton died April 7, 2008. Surviving are her mother and father, Della and Billy Stewart; sister, Billy Jane Stewart; loving uncles, aunts and cousins. The family received friends April 10 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home. Graveside services were held April 11 at Washington Memorial Park.
Herbert M. Whitehurst, of Sandston, passed away suddenly Sunday, April 6, 2008. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Juanita H. Whitehurst; three daughters, Susan W. Parrish and husband, Frank, Deborah W. Houser and husband, Nelson, Stephanie W. Pack and husband, Jackson; three grandchildren, Jeffrey S. Parrish, Katie Gillespie and Megan Houser; four great-grandchildren; brother, William “Bill” Whitehurst. Funeral services private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad.
