Robert Bond Jr., 68, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord, Friday, April 25, 2008.  He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bond, Sr., and stepfather, Everett Long.  He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Stewart Bond, mother, Pinie Bond Long, children, Harriet Bond Foutz and her husband Wallace R. Foutz, Jr., Barry S. Bond, Karen Bond Murtha and her husband Leonard J. Murtha, Joey S. Bond and his wife Wendy M. Bond.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, Julia D. Foutz, Nicholas Tanner Foutz, Lauren A Murtha, Ashley N. Bond, Ryan A. Murtha, Garrett A. Bond, god grandchild, Taylor Anne Fortner, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.  He was employed by Parsons-Brinckerhoff Inc. and a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church.  The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Cool Spring Baptist Church, many friends and neighbors for their prayers, visits, cards, and food. Also, the nurses and staff at Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital, Westport Healthcare Center and Mature Options.  Family and friends were received Monday, April 28, 2008, at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Road.  Services were held on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the funeral home.  Graveside services were held at Signal Hill Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cullather Brain Tumor Quality of Life Center, 5875 Bremo Road, St. Mary’s Hospital, MOB South, Suite 108, Richmond, Va. 23226.

Nell Ruth West (Taylor) Burnette, age 91, of Mechanicsville.  Went to be with the Lord April 30, 2008.  She was the widow of Herman Edgar “Ike” Taylor and William Garland Burnette. Daughter of the late Edmund Parke West, Sr. & Maude Tiernan Hill West.  Predeceased by two sisters, Flora Emily West Marks and Phyllis Maud West Chewning, three brothers, Edmund Parke West, Jr., Winston Goodall West and Charles Hill West.  She is survived by two daughters, Carroll T. Everett and her husband Newell B. Everett, Jr. of Gainesville, Va., Emily T. May and her husband W. Samuel May, Jr. of Mechanicsville; four granddaughters, Donna L. Smith, Janice M. Buchanan, Terry L. Ellis and Angie M. Stevenson, six great grandchildren, Daren Buchanan, Sydney Ellis, Laura and Carrie Taylor Stevenson, two step great grandchildren, Bryan and Rachel Smith; one stepson, William Garland Burnette, Jr., his daughter Dana Curley and grandchildren, Thomas and Amanda Curley.  She was a lifetime member of Cool Spring Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years.  Retired from Virginia State Registration Board for Contractors as Confidential Secretary, graduated from Washington Henry High School, attended Pan American Business School, member of the national Clopton Family Association, Scotchtown DAR, and the Hanover Historical Society.  The family received friends Friday, May 2, 2008, at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, Rt. 301 and Shady Grove Rd., Mechanicsville.  Funeral services were held Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Cool Spring Baptist Church, 9283 Atlee Station Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.  Graveside services were held in Cool Spring Baptist Church Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Cool Spring Baptist Church.

Mildred Tate Harriman, 89, of Ashland, the widow of, George M. Tate, Charles Franklin Corbin and William E. Harriman, passed away on Friday, April 25, 2008. She was preceded in death by a son, Herbert Lawrence Tate; and a grandson, Dean H. Pittman. She is survived by her children, Ray M. Tate (Trina A.), Charles Franklin Corbin Jr. (Jeanette), Donald L. Tate (Sheila C.), Anna Belle Ambrosen (Dana), Sharon Faye Haynie (Douglas), Charlene T. Smith (Henry) and Deborah P. Wickham (Stewart), who from the heart, feel “our mother was the best mother in the world”. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Christopher Tate, Terry Henley, Tara Forester, Dale Corbin, Ryan Smith, Charles Tate, Gregory Smith, Brittany Hutchinson, Brock Pittman, Tate Pittman, Corbin Haynie, Phillip Smith and Morgan Hutchinson; also 16 great-grandchildren; and a devoted and loving friend, Bett Bowles. Mrs. Harriman was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Mizpah Chapter #32, O.E.S., Rebekah Lodge #14, I.O.O.F, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. The family received friends on Sunday, April 27, 2008 in the Nelsen Funeral Homes Reid Chapel, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, where funeral services were held Monday, April 28, 2008 with graveside services being held in Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Ruther Glen. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Barbara Ann Selph Hudson, 71, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 19, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmore L. and Doris T. Selph; a loved daughter, Sheila Ann Robbins; and brother, Elmo E. Selph. She is survived by her husband, Edward J. Hudson; daughter, Carol Hagen and husband, Vivian; two sons, Walter L. Huddleston Jr. and wife, Edie, and Richard M. Long Jr.; one granddaughter, Nicole Huddleston; one great-grandson, Tyler Helms, all of Richmond; two brothers, James L. Selph and wife, Carol, of Greer, S.C. and Earnest L. Selph Sr. and wife, Diane, of Virginia Beach; also many nieces, nephews, and other family members. The family received friends Sunday, April 20, 2008 and Monday, April 21, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. A funeral service was held Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Emmanuel Tabernacle Assembly of God, 8026 Walnut Grove Road, Mechanicsville. Graveside services followed at Oakwood Cemetery.

Ella “Deanie” Mitchell, 80, of Richmond, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008. She is survived by her husband, Aubrey R. Mitchell Jr.; three children, Billy Mitchell and his wife, Vicki, Bobby Mitchell and his wife, Susan, and Beth Higgs and her husband, Frankie; seven grandchildren, Chris and Devon Mitchell; Katy, Hannah, and Elise Mitchell; Carson and Morgan Higgs; and her brother, Buddy Dungan. Mrs. Mitchell was a longtime member of Chamberlayne Baptist Church, where she taught the Fidelis Class for many years. The family received friends Saturday, April 12, 2008 and Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Graveside services were held on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, P.O. Box 70283, Richmond, Va. 23255-0283.

Morris Wayne “Booma” Rooke, 59, of Ashland, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2008. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Kay Haley Rooke; a sister, Dr. Wanda R. Chandler and her husband, Windy; a brother, E. Murray Rooke Jr. and his wife, Linda; and his mother-in-law, Lucille Haley; along with other close family and friends. Morris leaves behind his beloved dog, Bennie, and his horses Max, Diamond, and Icicle. Morris was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church, Ashland, which he considered the members of as family. The family received friends in the Nelsen Funeral Homes’ Reid Chapel, 412 So. Washington Hwy., Ashland, on Tuesday, April 22, 2008. A celebration of Morris’s life was held Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in First Baptist Church, Ashland. Graveside services were private. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial gifts to First Baptist Church, Ashland, Building Fund; or the Hanover Humane Society.
