Antoinette Flowers Townsend Baker, of Richmond, passed away June 13, 2010, at the age of 72. She grew up at Manskin Lodge in Manquin, Va., where she attended King William County Public Schools. Flowers later graduated from high school at Stuart Hall in Staunton. As a member of the class of 1959 at Hollins College, she spent her sophomore year studying at The University of Paris Sorbonne. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Barnes Townsend Sr. of Manquin; and a sister, Kathleen Ashley Townsend of Mechanicsville. She is survived by two daughters and a son, Nancy McClure Williams of Princeton, N.J., Deborah McClure Ball of Tappahannock and William T. Baker of Richmond. She is also survived by a sister and two brothers, Jane Townsend Lewis of Lewisberry, Pa., Hugh Barnes Townsend Jr. and Howard Ashley Townsend Sr., both of Manquin. Flowers had six grandchildren. Family received friends at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, on Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Services were held Thursday, June 17, 2010 at McKendree United Methodist Church in King William. Contributions may be made to the McKendree United Methodist Church Building Fund.

George Earnest Bond Sr., 80, of Richmond, died peacefully at home on Monday, June 7, 2010. He was the son of the late Omer Webster and Mary Proctor Bond and the widower of Evelyn Poindexter Bond. He is survived by a son, George Bond Jr. and his wife, Renee; a daughter, Pam Scott; three sisters, Bessie Johnson, Annie Davis and Mamie Poindexter; 10 grandchildren, a number of great and great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend of 16 years, Lois Shirley. He served proudly in the Army in the Korean War, and was a good father and a good friend to many. The family received friends on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where funeral services were conducted on Thursday, June 10, 2010. Graveside services followed in Washington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations will be accepted.

William L. Butler, 55, of Glen Allen, passed away peacefully June 12, 2010. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Butler. He was a loving, caring husband and father and will be deeply missed by his family. He is survived by his wife, Melanie Butler; three children, Andrew, Austin and Amanda Butler; father, Lawrence Butler; two sisters, Starr Eberhard (Mike) and Sylvia Shurm (Johnny); brother, Keith Butler (Pam); and nieces and nephews. The family received friends Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Bliley’s - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Road. The services were held Friday, June 18, 2010 at First Baptist Church, 2709 Monument Ave. Graveside services were held at Washington Memorial Park. Robert L. Collier Jr., “Rob”, went home to be with God on Sunday, June 13, 2010. Rob was vice-president and secretary of Quick Response Fire Protection. He was also an Eagle Scout and an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. Rob loved his family, friends, gardening, fishing, hunting and was an avid NASCAR race fan. He was Mark Martin’s #1 fan. Rob always lived life to the fullest and was a very giving person. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Collier Sr.; his paternal and maternal grandparents; and a devoted aunt, Jane Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Quinton; his mother, Nancy M. Collier of Hague; his brother, Jeff and wife, Jennifer, of Watertown, Mass., one paternal uncle and aunt and three maternal aunts and one uncle; and his devoted Lab companions, “Knothead” and “Sadie.” Friends and Family held a celebration of his life which took place at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, Saturday, June 19, 2010. Ernest M. Dabney, 70, of Ashland, (Jamestown Road), entered eternal rest on June 14, 2010. He was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Dory and Norman; and one sister, Yvonne. He was a graduate of John M. Gandy High School, Ashland, and attended the Fort Bragg Police Academy in Fayetteville, N.C. Ernest was an avid reader of popular fiction and a fishing enthusiast. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Rev. Sarah R. Dabney; two daughters, Renee D. Mills and Pamela Noble; three sisters, Ernestine Jones (Deacon Lloyd Jones), Lorane Trueheart (Fleming) and Elaine Wright (Michael); three brothers, Cornelius (Vernell), Everett (Delores) and Sie (Anna); four grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Helen Adams Dickerson, of Mechanicsville, went to be with her Lord on May 20, 2010. She is survived by her father, Arthur Adams; a sister, Barbara Brown; and a niece, Kimberly LaFoon. A celebration of Helen’s life will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at the Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville. Robbie Sue Black Forbes, 93, of Wilson, N.C., died Monday, June 14, 2010. Funeral was Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at First Christian Church, Wilson, followed by visitation in the church parlor. Mrs. Forbes, widow of Vance Thomas Forbes Sr., of Wilson, was born in Hopewell, Va. She was a member of her church where she served on the Altar Guild and as a Circle Leader. Surviving is her daughter, Sue Black Forbes Watson and her husband, Dr. Ritchie D. Anne Marie Gorman, 68, of Ashland, died on Sunday, June 13, 2010. She was born on Sept. 9, 1941, in Philadelphia, Pa., to John and Catherine Gorman. She attended grade school at St. Edward’s in Philadelphia and high school at both Halahan High and Kensington High, also in Philadelphia. She was a regular back-up on American Bandstand in the early ‘50s. She was an active member of Ashland Church of God where she was involved with Christian education. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister. She is survived by her son, Thomas W. Smith Sr. of Richmond, Va.; and her grandson, T. J. Smith Jr. of Ashland, Va.; and her brother, Thomas L. Gorman of Watertown, N.Y. A memorial service was held on Monday, June 21, 2010, at Ashland Church of God, 407 Myrtle St., Ashland.

Coty Ryan Gowen, 18, of Montpelier, was embraced by the Lord on Friday, June 18, 2010. He was raised by his proud parents, Gary and Victoria Hegamyer and Jerry and Stacy Gowen; and is also survived by his brothers, Jason Gowen, Michael Mayhew and Wesley Hegamyer; sisters, Lorin Mayhew, Taylor Worton, Amanda Gowen, Samantha Hegamyer and Ashley Ryan; a niece, Alexis Lynn Mayhew; many loving grandparents and extended family. His dream was to one day be a mixed martial arts fighter in the UFC. Inez Marilyn Jillson, (Cramer), 88, formerly of Earlville, N.Y., passed away at her home in Mechanicsville, on May 20, 2010. She will be deeply missed by her surviving sons and daughters-in-law, Edward S. and Denise Jillson of Ashland, Va.; David H. and Pat Jillson of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; a brother and his wife, Roger and Mary Lou Cramer of Red Oak, Texas; her grandchildren, Jay, Mark and Sarah Jillson, Lisa Marks, Ron and Eric Caruth; four great-grandchildren, and many close friends and relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her two daughters, Susan and Sharry; two brothers, Eugene and Eustace Cramer; a sister, Ione Jantzen; and a grandson, Steven Caruth. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. In addition, she made time to volunteer many hours in her community and be a very involved member of the First United Methodist Church. After moving to Virginia, she attended Shady Grove United Methodist Church, delivered Meals On Wheels, and helped many in need. Funeral services were held May 26, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church, Earlville, N.Y., followed by graveside services in the Earlville Cemetery. A memorial reception will be held at Christian Village of Central Virginia, 7105 Brooks Farm Rd., Mechanicsville, Va., on Thursday, June 24, 2010. Roger Dean McGuinn, “Griff”, 64, of Malabar, Fla., lost his battle to cancer on June 12, 2010. Born in Winchester, Va., he was the son of the late Henry Earl McGuinn and Kathleen Ashby McGuinn. He is survived by his children, Kathy Dean Hause, Alisa McGuinn, Travis McGuinn and Roger Dean McGuinn Jr.; two sisters, Mary Batten and Joan Bradley; and three brothers, Harry McGuinn, Melvin “Bud” McGuinn and Frank McGuinn. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Perks; and a brother, Henry McGuinn. Page Wright Nash, of Glen Allen, daughter of the late Winston P. and Pauline Wright, died peacefully on Thursday, June 17, 2010. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Tyler Marie Nash. She is survived by her husband, John Nash; her children: sons, Grady Nash and wife, Susie, Steve Nash and friend, Toni Lee; daughter, Nancy Nash Segal and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Laura Nash Phillips, Jessy, Jake and Annie Segal; great-grandchildren, Ella and Tobias Phillips. Thelma Sutton Netherland, “Sis”, age 96, of Mechanicsville, passed away June 14, 2010. Her parents were Archie and Mary Elizabeth Kelley Sutton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John W. Netherland; a sister, Anne Beninghove; a brother, Cecil Sutton; and granddaughter, Stacey Netherland. She is survived by sons, Wade S. Netherland and wife, Madelyn, Gordon L. Netherland and wife, Anna; grandchildren, Karen Baar (Allen), Kristin Ekman (Tom), Mark Netherland (Laura) and Benjamin Netherland (Madhavi); great-grandchildren, Lauren and Joseph Baar and Jett and Sutton Ekman; niece, Diana Knight; and nephews, William and Robert Beninghove, and William Michie III. Thelma was employed by Thalhimers, Montaldo’s, and later had her own clothing alterations business. Thelma loved gardening in her yard and was a member of Ravenswood Garden Club. She was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed family gatherings. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a gentle and kind woman with great inner strength. She touched many lives and will be dearly missed. The family wishes to give special thanks to Sherrill Hefele, Dot Kusterer, Ruby Haynesworth, Pearl Wright, and Alecia Patten for their loving care. Thelma was a charter member of the Catholic Church of The Redeemer, 8275 Meadowbridge Rd., Mechanicsville, where a Christian Wake was held Wednesday, June 16, 2010. The family received friends one hour prior to service. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the church. Graveside services were held at Forest Lawn. William J. Porter, “Bill”, 67, of Ashland, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Porter; and a granddaughter, Virginia “Ginny” Porter. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite V. Porter; a daughter, Mary Porter Studebaker (Dana); a son, William V. Porter; a granddaughter, Samantha Louise Studebaker; four brothers, Robert, Brian, Kenneth and David Porter; four sisters, Mary Novak, Monica Walsh, Andrea Porter and Eleanor Porter. Mr. Porter attended St. Charles Seminary for three years and graduated from Gonzaga High School and also the Catholic University. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, serving two tours in Vietnam, where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. He retired as a captain with 14 years of service. He was an avid outdoorsman and also served as a Boy Scout leader. Funeral services were held Friday, June 18, 2010 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 105 S. Snead St., Ashland.

Victoria Caroline Sikorski Reid, 90, of Glen Allen, went home June 11, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Lt. Col. John M. Reid as well as three brothers and three sisters. Mom to J. Allen Reid and his wife, Donna, of Manassas and J. Scott Reid and his wife, Lisa, of Glen Allen. Grandma Vicki to five grandchildren, Chris Reid of Fairfax, Alex Reid, Grayson Reid, Emily Snaman and Austin Snaman of Glen Allen; one great-granddaughter, Emma Bernardin of Glen Allen; one grand bulldog; and to many more whose lives were enriched by knowing her. Vicki’s passions included competitive golf, cooking and her world class shell collection, to name a few. Her cremains will be inurned next to Johnny’s at Arlington National Cemetery on Aug. 11, 2010, as well as spread on the North Shore of Oahu- her earthly paradise for three years.

Alma Stamper Satterwhite, 72, of Mechanicsville, went to sleep June 18, 2010 awaiting the resurrection. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Mamie Stamper; and brother, Howard. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother who is survived by her husband of 50 years, Floyd E. Satterwhite Sr.; son, Floyd E. Satterwhite Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and their four children, Mackie, Josh, Floyd III and Katie; two daughters, Lois Satterwhite and Mayme Satterwhite; four sisters, Earliene Stamper, Jean Sprinkle, Eula Schrewsbury and Barbara Moody; and nieces and nephews. Alma was a nurse in the Richmond area for 40 years and a member of the United Church of God. The family received friends Sunday, June 20, 2010 at Bliley’s - Staples Mill, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where funeral services were held Monday, June 21, 2010. Julia Alvis Starkey, 93, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord on June 18, 2010.  She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence A. Starkey, Sr. She is survived by her son, Lawrence A. Starkey, Jr., and his wife Joy, two daughters, Mary Carol Starkey, and June S. Hobson and her husband Marshall, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and brother, Vance Q. Alvis and his wife Barbara. She was a retiree of Royal Globe Insurance Company, and a 50 year member of Skipwith UMC. The family received friends on Sunday, June 20, 2010, at the Parham Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1771 N. Parham Road, Richmond. Helen E. Taylor, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Peace, the father of her children; and also by her husband, Willard Taylor. She is survived by her four children and five grandchildren. Nannie was a beautiful woman dedicated to her family, full of humor and a love of God. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. The family received friends on Thursday, June 17, 2010 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where services were held Friday, June 18, 2010. Graveside services were held in Oakwood Cemetery.

Marie Webb Temple, age 72, of Glen Allen, joined our Lord on June 18, 2010. She is survived by her loving husband, James W.; three children, Judy Alloway (Steve), Doug Temple and Robin Kindy; six grandchildren, Lindsay , Amanda, Bryan and Blake Alloway, and Emily and Katie Kindy; a loving brother, Robert T. Webb Jr. (Catherine); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed. The family received friends Monday, June 21, 2010 at Lawrenceville Baptist Church.
