Richard Herman Boyette, 64, of Stafford, Va. passed away on Friday, July 30, 2010 at John Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born Jan. 31, 1946 in Richmond to the late Willie H. and Bonnie L. Boyette. Mr. Boyette was a member of Salem Fields Community Church in Fredericksburg. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the U.S. Army in 1987 and retired as a civilian employee of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command in 2008. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Soon Ja; his daughter, Candice M. Geoghegan of Richmond; his son, Mark R. Boyette of Spotsylvania; his grandchildren, Kristina Boyette, Sebastian Boyette, Leighton Boyette, Xavier Boyette, Christopher Geoghegan, Joshua Geoghegan, and Caleb Geoghegan; his brother, Leonard Wayne Boyette of Mechanicsville; his sisters, Rebecca Boyette of Sandston, Deneese Wallace of Tappahannock, Anita Gibson of New Kent, Bonnie DaSilva of Sandston, and Kathy Boyette-Cassil of Richmond. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010 at Salem Fields Community Church.  Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at Dale Memorial Park in Chesterfield, Va. George W. H. Carl, 81, went to be with the Lord after a long illness on Saturday, July 24, 2010. He was born in St. Louis, Mo. on Nov. 17, 1928 and was the son of Hanne and George F.E. Carl. He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepmother, Anna F. Carl. He leaves his wife of 55 years, Almira Lou; two sons, Mark A. (Beth) and Kevin L. (Janet); four grandchildren, Kirsten Bishop (Brad), William Carl, Katie McNeece (Dustin) and Lindsey Carl; one great-grandchild, Collin McNeece; an aunt, Thea Brinkmann; and cousin, Ingrid Makocy (Steve) of Connecticut; and other cousins, family and friends. George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Carl worked for Inta-Roto as a photoengraver for 25 years, Richmond Powder Coating and Packaging Gravure. George loved God and was an unselfish volunteer to the many organizations of which he was a member. He was a founding member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mechanicsville (formerly of Sandston), a member of American Legion Post 144, Highland Springs, American Electroplaters Society and the German American Sports Club. As a young man, he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was a longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. George was a person who enjoyed life, family and friends. He will be truly missed. The family extends special thanks to Dr. Gerald Hake; caregiver, Brenda Jefferson; and the staff at Medi-Home and Hospice Care, especially Georgia Peterson and Diane Gillies. Anita Neurand Dodds, 81, of Glen Allen, died Friday, July 30, 2010. She was the widow of William Dodds, and of Dr. William J. Sweeney. She is survived by her sister, Brigitte Neurand; her brother, Drs. Klaus Neurand and his wife, Marie Louise and family, all of Germany; her stepchildren, William J. Sweeney II, Steven Sweeney, Sharon Sweeney and family, Emily Warekois and her husband, William and family; and her beloved dog “Plutsy.” A graveside service was held Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Alberta Loving Douglas, 81, of Hanover, widow of Garland Lee Douglas, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Stuart, Wilbur, Raymond and Melvin Loving; and sister, Pearl Chenault. Surviving is her son, Lee Douglas Jr. and wife, Sandra, of Aylett; daughter, Dale Douglas Thompson and husband, Gray, of Gladys, Va.; five grandchildren, Christy, Billy, Jesse, Elizabeth and Emily; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucy Mackey, Shirley Camp, Erma Garrett and husband, Ronnie; brother, John Loving and wife, Irene; and many nieces and nephews. The family received friends on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at Signal Hill Memorial Park.

Ida Elizabeth Edwards. God needed another angel, so he took her to join her son “Billy,” who was killed in the line of duty as a police officer. She was married only once, to William H. “Bill,” for nearly 65 years. They had three children, Billy, Susan and Jane; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, George and Ted; and one sister, Peggy. Ida was a person who loved everyone and knew no strangers. She married at age 18, then moved to Detroit for two years, then moved back to Richmond, as she longed to be near her friends and family. The family received friends on Saturday, July 31, 2010 and on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010. Graveside services followed at Signal Hill.

Ardell Acquilla Evans, “Quilla”, 79, wife of Jesse Thomas Evans Jr. of Glen Allen was called home on Sunday, July 25, 2010. Quilla was the daughter of the late Melvin and Mary Davis and attended Virginia Randolph High School. She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted family, her husband, Jesse T. Evans Jr.; three daughters, Sandra Anderson, Jackie Thompson (Raymond) and Vaness Jackson (Bert); four granddaughters, Kendra Anderson, Jenae Thompson, Dakota Jackson and Montana Jackson; two grandsons, Raymond Thompson III and Ernest Anderson Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Darien Smith and Lydia Anderson; a sister, Christine Gazelle Lawson; two sisters-in-law, Jean E. Quash (James) and Odessa E. Johnson (William); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her remains rest at the W.S. Watkins and Son Funeral Home, 2700 North Ave. Funeral services were held at the Providence Park Baptist Church, 468 E. Ladies Mile Rd., on Friday July 30, 2010. Rev. Dr. Jerome C. Ross, pastor. Graveside services were held at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Robert Edward Foos Sr., “Ed”, of Mechanicsville, died July 28, 2010 at his home in Covenant Woods. Born in 1924, he was predeceased by his parents, George Howard and Ruth Mitchell Foos; and six older siblings. Ed was known for his intellect, integrity and generosity. Eddie is survived by his loving wife, Helen Fredrickson Foos, from whom he was virtually inseparable through 65 years of marriage. His memory is also cherished by three children and their spouses, Robert Foos Jr. (Patricia), Donald Foos (Catherine), and Marjorie Simmons (Wade); six grandchildren and a spouse, Jacob Foos, Mitchell Foos (Amy), Linden Foos, Eric Foos, Claire Simmons and Ruth Simmons; one great-grandchild, Mikaela Foos; and many loving nieces, nephews and their children. A Richmond native, Ed graduated from John Marshall High School in 1942 and was a clarinet player in the school’s much-decorated Cadet Corps Band. After graduation, he worked at C&P Telephone Co. as a draftsman, joined the Army Air Corps during WWII, and resumed work for C&P after the war. Due to his hard work and exceptional technical abilities, he quickly rose through the ranks. He retired after 43 years of exemplary service as second-level supervisor in 1984. While Ed enjoyed numerous hobbies and interests throughout his life, he devoted much of his time in retirement to collecting and restoring used and vintage musical instruments. Dubbed the “Philanthropist of Mechanicsville,” his passion was providing restored band instruments to school children based on their ability to pay, often giving them away for little or nothing. Ed was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery. A memorial service and reception will be held to celebrate his life in the community room of Covenant Woods Retirement Home in Mechanicsville on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010. Peggy M. Hall, passed peacefully on July 25, 2010 to be with our Lord. She is survived by Donald G. Reamy, faithful friend and companion who was her caregiver. She is also survived by her daughter, Margaret W. Tucker and husband, Forrest; grandsons, Bill McClure and wife, Janine; Kenneth Golding and wife, Shannon; and four great-grandchildren, Brittaney and Ashleigh McClure and Dillon and Hunter Golding. She retired from Verizon and enjoyed her time at the beach with all her friends and family. Memorial services were held Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Woody Funeral Home, Atlee Chapel. Charles L. Holloway Jr., 59, of Glen Allen, went to be at rest on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. He is survived by a brother, two sisters, a son, and many friends. The family received friends Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where services were held Monday, Aug. 2, 2010. Ronald Glen Houston, age 29, of Mechanicsville, was called home to be with his Lord on July 31, 2010. Ronald was born with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome and not expected to live past two years of age. However, God had a special plan for Ronald and blessed him with 27 additional years. He loved the simple things in life such as good church music, a little ice cream, and Wheel of Fortune. The joy that radiated from this life transitioned into the countless lives he touched throughout his years and love was abundant for all. Ronald faithfully attended and loved Fairmount Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Joseph and Esther Colgin. He is survived by his loving and devoted parents, Donald and Debra Houston; sister, Jennifer Houston Doran and husband, Jamey; niece and nephew, Jay and Anna Doran; paternal grandparents, Charles and Janet Houston; maternal stepgrandmother, Mary Colgin; and many aunts, uncles and cousins that loved him dearly. Ronald will truly be missed by all those he loved, who are comforted by the belief that he is with God and the faith that we will all be together again one day. Julian Brindleton Huckstep Jr., “Junie”, of Hanover County, departed this life Monday, July 26, 2010, in Mechanicsville. Born at Palls, Va., in King William County on June 24, 1920, he grew up at the family home in Church Hill, Richmond, completing high school at John Marshall, class of 1937. He went on to receive a BA degree from Randolph-Macon College, class of 1941. Julian joined the Army Air Corps for duty in WWII, and served in the Radar Development and Implementation Division as 1st Lieutenant at Bakersfield, Calif. Upon returning from military service he resumed a career as studio engineer at WRVA radio, retiring after 46 years of service in 1985. He also provided much help in the operation of his mother’s country store, Huckstep Grocery. Junie, as he was known to his friends and locals, also spent many years in the repair of electronics and mechanical devices. He was your go-to guy for television, radio and phono repair. He was also a member of Northside Lodge #292. Junie truly understood the virtue of respect for all races of people, and instilled the same in his children. He had a sincere respect for the hard-working man and truly identified with the salt of the earth. He is survived by his devoted and caring wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Westmore Waring Duesberry Huckstep; daughters, Elizabeth Page Waldrop and her husband, Bob; Julie Waring Harris and husband, Randy; two sons, Julian B. Huckstep III and wife, Valerie; Lloyd Coleman Huckstep and wife, Linda. The grandchildren include Matthew Morton, Eric Morton, Neil Huckstep, Brett Huckstep, Andrew Harris, Hunter Harris; and granddaughter, Angela Huckstep. Survivors also include a host of nieces and nephews of the Duesberry family. Junie outlived all but two of his close buddies, Curtis Wingfield and Mac Langley. The family received visitors at the Atlee Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, Route 301 and Shady Grove Road. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the funeral home. Louie E. Marsh, “Lou”, 87, of Hanover, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 27, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, Bertha P. Marsh; children, Edward Marsh (Patti), Susan Marsh, Christie O’Steen (Dan), and Keith Marsh (Kim); brother, Frank Marsh (Betty); and nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Lou was a manager for over 20 years at Bill’s BBQ, worked part-time at Ukrop’s for 16 years, and was a member of Fairmount Christian Church. He was a Navy veteran serving during WWII. Alice Dunton Trower Rawles, of Glen Allen, formerly of Cape Charles and Portsmouth, died at home on Friday, July 23, 2010. Mrs. Rawles was born March 20, 1936 to the late Dr. and Mrs. William Bell Trower of Cape Charles. Mrs. Rawles was an avid traveler, having stepped foot on all seven continents. She read extensively and enjoyed volunteering her time for Meals on Wheels, the local public library and her church. Mrs. Rawles is survived by three children, Margaret Rawles Brown and her husband, Danny, of Montpelier, Thomas William Rawles of Portsmouth and Adah Rawles Swenson and her husband, Ben, of Williamsburg; three grandchildren, Caroline, Samuel and Eric; sister, Henrietta Scherer Trower Morris of Cape Charles; and two nephews and a niece. An Anglican Rite of Burial (1928 Book of Common Prayer) was held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Deep Run Baptist Church, 10907 Three Chopt Rd., Richmond, Va. 23233.
