Joyce Custalow Cornell, 63, of King William, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010. Mrs. Cornell worked for Essex Bank. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Elsie Custalow; her husband, Rodney Cornell; and brothers, Randolph, Phillip and Morris Custalow; and sister-in-law, Jean Custalow. C. Peter Cost, “Pete”, age 79, of Glen Allen, passed away Aug. 10, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Yolanda M. Cost; daughter, Lynn Widowski of Fort Edward, N.Y.; son, Randy and wife, Connie, of Mechanicsville, Va.; son, Tim and wife, Stephanie, of Philadelphia, Pa.; son, Dan and wife, Kim, of Hopewell Junction, N.Y.; grandsons, Chris Widowski, McGhee Cost, Andrew Cost, Tyler Cost and Kyle Cost; granddaughters, Lisa Gormley and husband, Jay, and Melanie Cost; sisters, Ralou Horning and Patricia Cost; several nieces and nephews and many devoted friends. He was preceded in death by his son, David; brothers, George, Alex and Arthur; and sisters, Margaret and Elaine. Mr. Cost was born and raised in Syracuse, N.Y. and attended Onondaga Valley High School, where he starred in baseball, football and basketball, and served as president of his senior class, 1949. He later graduated from LeMoyne College, Syracuse, N.Y., in 1953 and was a longtime youth sports coach in the greater Syracuse area. He was a retired vice president from Johnson Restaurant Supply and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). He was an active and dedicated member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Camillus, N.Y.; St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Marcellus, N.Y.; and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Richmond, Va. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010 at Our Lady of Lourdes in Richmond, Va. Graveside services were held at Hanover Memorial Park Cemetery. Josephine Mitchell Foltz, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010. She was the daughter of the late Ernest L. and Ruth K. Mitchell of Sugar Grove, W.Va. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Clarence Eugene Foltz; daughter, Sarah Foltz Vaughan and husband, David; son, Ernest Wayne Foltz and wife, Jan; two granddaughters, Julie Dankel and Jillian Dankel; grandson, Chad Foltz; two sisters, Norene M. Roberta Weldon Gilman, of Ashland, died on Aug. 13, 2010 in the home where she was born 92 years ago. She was a 46-year employee at Hanover National Bank, later First Virginia and BB&T. She was predeceased by her parents, William E. and Sallie Parke Gilman; and brothers, Hansford Gray Gilman, William Ellett Gilman and Thomas Edward Gilman; and sister, Alma Earle Gilman Tucker. She is survived by her nephew, Floyd Woodruff Tucker IV; nieces, Donna Gilman Dennehy and Sharon Gray Ciferri. She is also survived by great-nephews, Joseph Campbell Tucker, William Alexander Tucker, Michael Gilman Dennehy; great-nieces, Karen Dennehy Godsey and Kristin Ciferri; and close friend and cousin, Beverly Proffitt. Dennis Gerard Gross, “Denny”, 52, unexpectedly departed this life Aug. 4, 2010. He was preceded in death by his father, James Gross. Helen H. Hacker, 96, of Richmond, passed away Aug. 15, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband; William Brooks Hacker, son; William Lynn Hacker and her brother Ralph Hinzman. Robert Lewis Johnson, “Bob”, of Mechanicsville, passed away Aug. 10, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ann Marie Johnson; two sons, Robert M. “Hotrod” Johnson and Christopher S. “Hotshot” Johnson; two daughters, Sandy Y. Whitaker and Annette Pruitt; siblings, Ann Hooper and Carol “Coot” Johnson, both of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margie Ramsey Johnson and Carol F. Johnson. Mr. Johnson was born and raised in Columbia, S.C., graduated from Olympia High School and has lived in Mechanicsville for 10 years. John Haley Morris Jr., “Pete”, 68, went to be with the Lord Aug. 14, 2010. He was born Dec. 4, 1941 in Charlottesville. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Haley Morris and Neva Kirby Morris. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth T. Morris; daughters, Haley Cully of Mechanicsville, and Shannon Morris of Sandston; grandchildren, Trey and Madison Cully, and Nicholas Morris; sisters, Angie Maiden (Gene), Wanda Chapman (Vernon), both of Richmond, Linda Garner of Alabama, and Brenda Madison (John), also of Richmond; one uncle, several aunts, nieces, nephews, many cousins and close friends. Pete began his early years by joining the U.S. Marine Corps being deployed overseas during the Vietnam War. This had a huge impact on his life and he was proud to have served in the military. He was a loving family man, who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Always having their interest at heart, he was a big supporter of their dreams and ideas. Pete was an energetic person who loved and lived life to the fullest. He never met a stranger and easily made lifelong friends. Sports were ever present with him, and he especially enjoyed playing golf. He loved the outdoors and nature’s beauty. His career was important to him, and he was most successful in his accomplishments. Working hard and being conscientious were ingrained in his soul. By all of this, he set an example for others around him. Love of music developed early on, singing old hymns and gospels was most pleasurable. He was a childhood member of Calvary Methodist Church, and his faith helped him face these difficult times. A lasting footprint has been left on this earth by a very special person. Edward Andrew Tidwell, 62, of Glen Allen, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Ann Tidwell; son, Paul Eaton; sister, Janice Gilmore; brother, Carl Tidwell; and numerous loving relatives and friends. Ed was a senior electrical engineer who reviewed electrical plans for the City of Richmond. The family wishes to express deep gratitude to the Hepatology and Liver Transplant Departments of VCU Health Systems. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010 at St Mary’s Catholic Church at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Aubrey Vernon Tucker, “Bobby”, age 81, of Mechanicsville, departed this life on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hunter Charles Tucker Sr. and Hazel Miller Tucker. He is survived by his brother, Hunter Charles Tucker Jr.; and sister-in-law, Vivian Tucker; two nephews, Charles W. Tucker (Sandra) and Terry K. Tucker (Mion); many great- and great-great-nieces and nephews, a large number of loyal friends and neighbors; and his good friend, Jody Martin. A graduate of John Marshall High School, Bobby was retired, with 38 years of service from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, where he served as a Bank Examiner. Bobby enjoyed life, and loved sports, in particular college football and basketball. He was looking forward to following the Virginia Tech Hokies this season. Bobby also loved being near the water, and had a passion for fishing. He was a lifelong and devoted member of Fairmount Christian Church. Dell Harman Tuggle, 89, passed into the loving arms of our Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010. Dell was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Dublin,VA to Charles W. Harman and Dell Scott Harman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl William Tuggle; and two brothers, Robert Harman and Charles Harman. Surviving are two daughters, Susan Tuggle Sunderland of Grampian, PA, and Theresa “Terri” Tuggle Scarborough of Mechanicsville; a son, Carl William “Bill” Tuggle, Jr. of Hampton; four grandchildren; Tiffney Rougeux of Grampian, PA, Tracey Schaffer of Orange, VA, and Nathan and Hannah Scarborough of Mechanicsville and a great grandson, Tyler Rougeux of Grampian, PA. James Leroy Yates, age 85, of Mechanicsville, went to be with the Lord Aug. 10, 2010. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, June Lowry Yates; three children, Kilroy Yates (Ann), Gail Porch (Michael), and David Yates (Kim); eight grandchildren, Cheryl Yates Dunn, Derek Yates (Michelle), Carrie Yates, Michael Porch Jr. (Leigh), Lisa Porch, Kristin Yates, Lauren Yates and D.J. Yates; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Dolly Johnson; sister-in-law, Evelyn Cain; a special friend, Bubba Balducci; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
