Gladys Elliott Peace, 73, of Mechanicsville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer of which she fought with grace and a smile on her face. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and two brothers. She is survived by her two daughters, Judy Kilgour and her husband, Guy Kevin, Norma Ring and her husband, Jimmy; two very special grandchildren that she adored, Stephanie Kay and Guy Kevin Kilgour Jr.; a sister, Mildred Jeter; and a brother, David Elliott; special nieces, nephews and cousins. Gladys worked for the Virginia Department of Taxation and retired in July 1991 with 43 years of service. She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church, a dear loving, kind christian mother, grandmother and friend, who will remain in our hearts forever. Her family received friends Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008 at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. Richmond, Va 23231. A celebration of her life was held Monday, Aug. 25, 2008 in the chapel. Graveside services followed at Hanover Memorial Park Cemetery, 4447 Mechanicsville Turnpike, Mechanicsville, Va. 23111.

Dr. Edward F. Scanlon, died Aug. 5, 2008 in his home in Southlake, Tx. at age 89.  He was born in Waynesburg, Pa in 1918, graduated from Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio Magnum Cum Laude and member of Phi Beta Kappa, Columbia University Medical School, served his residency at Memorial Hospital and was a Research Fellow at Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York.  Served in the Medical Corps in Europe in WW II.  He moved to the Chicago area where he was professor of Surgery and Chief of Surgical Oncology at Northwestern University Medical School and a private practice as an Oncology Surgeon.  Among his many honoraries he served as president of the national American Cancer Society for two years.  He is survived by his wife, Virginia, daughters Mary Scanlon, Cathy Pringle, three grandchildren, his sister Eileen S. Brogan and niece Lynn Cutright of Mechanicsville, niece Suellen Brogan of Richmond, James E. Scanlon of Ashland.  He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Ellen Scanlon, four brothers and five sisters.
