Leslie W. Hughes, 91, of Highland Springs died October 15, 2007. He is survived by his niece, Barbara S. Adams, two nephews; Ernest and George Revels. He is also survived by a devoted friend Janie Harrington of Mechanicsville, VA. Mr. Hughes was a member of Fairmount Christian Church and a Mason. Donations may be made to Fairmount Chirstian Church, 6502 Crieghton Road, Mech. Va. 23111. A graveside service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery Thursday, October 18, 2007.
Ann J. Kennedy, 81, went home to be with the Lord Christ Jesus on October 20, 2007, following a battle with cancer of the lungs and spine. Ann is survived by her husband and best friend of 62 years, John W. Kennedy; and their four children Virginia Weaver, Carolyn Armstrong, John Kennedy, and James Kennedy. Ann was blessed with six grandchildren, Robert Bailey, Chad Armstrong, Jonathan Armstrong, Shawn Kennedy, Josh Kennedy, and Hilary Kennedy; and five great-grandchildren, Jacob Bailey, Emma Armstrong, Bailey Armstrong, Carter Armstrong, and Patrick Michael Kennedy; one sister, Martha Jean Gibson of Richardson, Texas. Ann loved the Lord and served Him faithfully as a founding member of Anchor Baptist Church, Mechanicsville. The family received friends Monday October 22, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where funeral services were also held Tuesday, October 23, 2007. Graveside services followed in Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Virginia, 7231 Forest Ave., Suite 100, Richmond, Va. 23226.
Dr. Bettie Louise Nelson, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 18, 2007 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, District Elder Willie and Mother Bettie Nelson. She leaves to celebrate her homegoing two children, Marc and Miranda Knuckles; and their father, Dr. Maurice Knuckles; two sisters, Elnora Williams and Dorothy “Shirley” Fuller (John); one brother, Willie Nelson Jr. (Debby); nine aunts; four uncles; seven nieces; four nephews; two great-nieces; four great-nephews; a host of cousins, other relatives and many inspirational friends. She was an employee of Philip Morris USA, Richmond, Va. The famil received friends Monday October 22, 2007 at Brunson’s Funeral Chapel, 1st and Federal Streets. The family also received friends Monday October 22, 2007 at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 8175 Pleasant Grove Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23116 and where the family received friends Monday, October 22, 2007., the funeral services was held Tuesday, October 23, 2007. Graveside services were held at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory. Jordon Lee Ray, age 22, of Sandston, died Saturday, October 13, 2007. He is survived by his mother, Terry Ray; father, Dennis Ray; daughter, Brianna Ray; sister, Heather Marr; brother, Tyler Ray; maternal grandmother, Judith Fox; paternal grandmother, Marjorie Bews; his love, Ashton Aguilera; and was preceded in death by his best friend, Diesel. The family received friends Wednesday October 17 and Thursday October 18, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where funeral services were conducted on Friday, October 19. Graveside services private.
Lynwood V. Shaw, 78, of Highland Springs, stepped into the arms of Jesus on October 21, 2007. He was preceded in death by his son, Lynwood Jr. (Rocky); his parents, Samuel and Carrie Shaw; and brother, Kermit. He is survived by his devoted wife, Joyce Shaw; loving daughter, Brenda Bass; son-in-law, Charles Bass; grandson, Jason Lyn Bass that he loved dearly; many special nieces and nephews that he loved as his own children; several very special friends; and his dog, Lady. Lynwood was a charter member of Henrico Rescue Squad - retired from Philip Morris, and a strong supporter of Children in Youth Ministry. Lynwood had a heart that was too big for his body. He cared for and was loved by all that ever knew him. The family received friends Monday October 22, and Tuesday October 23, at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where funeral services were held Wednesday, October 24, 2007 with graveside services following in Oakwood Cemetery. George L. Wright Sr., 79, of Mechanicsville, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007. He is survived by a daughter, Yvonne King; two sons, George (Buddy) Wright Jr. and his wife, Linda, and Burt Wright and his wife, Shirley; 12 grandchildren, three great-granddaughters; a brother, Winfred Wright; a sister, Carrie Palmer. Mr. Wright was a retired truck mechanic from Bingham Truck Co. and Blair Transit Co., a U.S. Army veteran of Korea, and a life member of V.F.W. Post No. 9808. The family received friends Thursday October 18, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., where funeral services were held Friday. October 19, 2007. Graveside services were held at Hanover Memorial Park.
