Richard E. “Dick E.” Curtis Sr. ,of Deltaville, originally of Richmond, died suddenly October 23, 2007, at his favorite place, the golf course. He was a retired captain of the Richmond Fire Department after 32 years of service. He is survived by his wife, Robin; daughters, Sandy Redd and husband, Ricky, Joanne Spruell and husband, Larry; sons, Richard E. Curtis Jr. and wife, Donna, Wayne Curtis and wife, Lori; two stepchildren, Sally Pearson and Joe Wool; sisters, Nellie Jones of San Diego, Calif., and Thelma Milby of Sandston; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family received friends Thursday October 25, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, where services were held Friday, October 26, 2007. Elizabeth Gaines “Lib” Davis, 90, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 27, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Elmore W. Davis Sr.; two sons, Harry M. Gaines Sr. and his wife, Jo Ellen, and John R. Gaines and his wife, Carol; three grandsons, Dr. H. Malcolm Gaines Jr., Daniel E. Gaines, and J. Michael Gaines; one stepson, E. Wilson Davis Jr. and his wife, Marice; one stepdaughter, Kimberly B. Davis; and two stepgranddaughters, Jennifer Chmelensky and Katy Davis. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her first husband, Frederick Henry Gaines; and a son, Frederick Henry Gaines Jr. The family received friends Tuesday October 30, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Chamberlayne Baptist Church. Graveside services were held at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Marie B. Fleet, of Mechanicsville, born May 17, 1927, went to join her Heavenly Father on Monday, October 22. MeMe (that is how everyone knew her), a devoted wife and mother, was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Robert E. Fleet Sr.; son, Robert E. Fleet Jr.; and daughter, Ellen Loujean Fleet. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy F. Owens; grandson, Robert M. Fleet; granddaughter, Loujean O. Goetz; three great- grandchildren, Caleb Goetz, Wesley Fleet, Haley Goetz; five sisters, Ruby Newcomb, Edna Broom, Hazel Olsen, Marion Robertson, Christine McGraw; and one brother, Carl Berkley. Marie was a devoted member of Northminster Baptist Church for over 50 years. Viewing was held at Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., Mechanicsville, Wednesday, October 24. A graveside service was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery Thursday, October 25. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association. Annie Viola Butler Garrett, born January 13, 1909 in Orange County, Va., widow of William F. Garrett, died October 26, 2007. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce L. Casstevens; three grandchildren, Larry Coghill, Pam Watkins and David Coghill; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Zachery Coghill. The family received friends and family at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road, Sunday October 28, 2007. A graveside service was held Monday, October 29, 2007 in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Sylvia Dathel McKinney, 90, of Mechanicsville, died October 25, 2007. She is survived by her nieces, Rita Dillon and husband, Charles, of Hanover and Amelia Thornton and husband, Randolph, of Richmond; and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Sylvia was a 16-year member of Reveille United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held Monday, October 29, 2007 in Westhampton Memorial Park. Hattie L. Robinson, age 88, of Mechanicsville, died Monday, October 22, 2007. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Charles E. Robinson. She is survived by a daughter, Joyce R. Handy (Wayne); two sons, James F. Robinson (Nell), and Woodley S. Robinson (Betty); three grandchildren, Cheryl Collie (Charles), Jeff Robinson (Sylvia), and Lance Robinson; six great-grandchildren, Grace, Ben, and Emily Collie, Hayley, Moriah, and Caleb Robinson; and one sister, Eldora Hamilton. Mrs. Robinson was a longtime member of Bonnie Brae Church of Christ and a current member of Fairmount Christian Church. The family received friends Wednesday, October 24 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 25 at Fairmount Christian Church, 6502 Creighton Road, Mechanicsville, 23111. Graveside services followed in Slash Christian Church Cemetery. David M. Sprouse, age 53, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, October 26, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry; devoted children, Sarah Young and her husband, Ryan, and Paul Sprouse; grandchildren, Owen and Wyatt; father-in-law, Walter L. Powell; brother, Thomas Sprouse and his wife, Lynda; nieces, Tracie Land and Stephanie O’Dell; nephews, Thomas Sprouse II, Mike Sprouse and Brent Sprouse; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia P. Sprouse and Earl Sprouse; a brother, Gerald A. Sprouse; and his mother-in-law, Sarah R. Powell. David was the owner of Trinity Sales & Service, Inc. and the founder and former owner of Atlee Auto Service, Inc. He was a longtime member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and a devoted and deeply loved husband, father and friend that will always be remembered. The family received friends Monday, October 29, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. A memorial service to celebrate his life was held Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Cool Spring Baptist Church, 9283 Atlee Station Rd., Mechanicsville. Matthew E. Stevens, 40, of Mechanicsville, passed away Friday, October 26, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Matthew P. and Grace E. Stevens; mother and stepfather, Deborah and John Dawson; father, Emory M. Stevens; two brothers, Peyton Stevens and Stacy Stevens and wife, Vicki; grandmother, Thelma Hayden; as well as father and mother-in-law, Russell and Alice Pace. Matthew was a master carpenter for 19 years at Union Theological Seminary and a member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. Graveside services private. Ripley W. Williamson, Jr., 66, of Brunswick, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 at Hospice of the Golden Isles. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 2:00 pm from the gravesite at Palmetto Cemetery. Survivors include his sister, Jane Smith formerly of Virginia Beach and brother-in-law, Charlie Smith, formerly of Ashland, both now residing in Brunswick, a niece, Rebecca Walker of Brunswick, a nephew, John Wahab of Woodbridge, VA, along with many other close family members. Rip was preceded in death by his parents, Ripley W. and Elizabeth Williamson, and a sister, Diane Williamson O’Berry.Rip was born in Norfolk, VA, May 1, 1941, he graduated from Granby High School in 1962 and joined the United States Air Force. He moved to Brunswick in 1972 and was a member of St. Franics Xavier Catholic Church. Rip was retired from King & Prince Seafood as a weight and Measure specialist, was a volunteer with the local Citizens on Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard, and was an active volunteer with ‘Victory for God’ which helped to promote getting prayer back into the public school system. Rip was a certified amatuer radio operator, and was a former disc jokey with the local radio station. He was a member of the Brunswick Railroad Club.In lieu of flowers, thefamily has requested donations to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Ga 31525.Chapman Funeral Chapel & Crematory of Brunswick, GA., is in charge of the arrangements.
