Bedie Bell Baker, of Mechanicsville, passed away December 5, 2007 at 90 years of age.  She was preceded in death by husbands, DeWitt Hill Sr., and George T. Baker, as well as her beloved grandson, Jimmie Hill.  She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Mary E. Pope and her husband Rick, DeWitt Hill, Sr. and his wife Betty Ann, James A. Hill and his wife Connie, Dorothy Markow and her husband Chip, Alice Epps and husband Billy, Jan Baker and husband Roscoe, her beloved sister Elsie Jones of Roxboro, NC, sisters-in-law, Inez Young of Virgilina, VA and Gentry Young of Chesapeake, VA, 14 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends at Christian Village Community, especially Thelma Ross and Jill Griffin to whom we are so grateful.  Mrs. Baker was an avid gardener and especially loved taking care of her beautiful flowers.  She was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.  We wish to thank the devoted nurses and doctors at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital for their many hours of service and support to our mother.  The family received friends Friday, December 7, 2007 at the Atlee Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, Rt. 301 & Shady Grove Road.  Funeral Services were held Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the funeral home.  Graveside services were held at Washington Memorial Park.

Glen Gordon Brodrick Jr., 73, of Mechanicsville, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane H. Brodrick; sister, Irene Blackburn; and brother, Ike Brodrick. He is survived by his wife, Martha F. “Connie” Brodrick; a son, Christopher W. Brodrick; a daughter, Kimberly Gruffi and husband, Douglas; and two grandchildren, Brandon and Lauren Gruffi; four brothers, James, William, Tom and David Brodrick; two sisters, Grace Cunningham and Suzy Garoutte. The family received friends. on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where funeral services were held on Wednesday December 12, 2007. Graveside services followed at Signal Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Church Street Station, P.O. John G. “Jack” Bruce Jr. , 71, of Mechanicsville, owner of Bruce Auto Parts, passed away November 30, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Valecia M. Bruce; his children, Mark Bruce and wife, Lindy, Melanie White and husband, Sam, Scott Bruce, and Jennifer Adkins and husband, Rodney; nine grandchildren, Scott Aaron, Brittany, Logan, Chasity, Megan, Hunter, Afton, Brooklyn and Tabitha; two sisters, Beatrice Crantz and Marjorie Phillips and husband, Gerald. The family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Friday, December 7 at Black Creek Baptist Church, 6289 McClellan Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23111. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund of Black Creek Baptist Church.

Mrs. Louise Claytor, 82, widow of Vernon Claytor, was preceded in death by her son, Monroe Claytor, and parents, James O. and Selina Smith, and also four brothers and five sisters. She is survived by one brother, Claude F. Smith; one sister, Vernelle Perrin; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Claytor was a longtime member of Naomi Chapter of the Eastern Star, a member of American Legion Post 144 Ladies Auxilliary, and she retired from the Life of Virginia with 33 years of service. Family received friends Monday December 17, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennet Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., and where services were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday December 18, 2007. Graveside services occured in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Enon United Methodist Church or East Hanover Rescue Squad.

M. Sharon Kettenacker, 61, of Mechanicsville, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007. She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mark Kettenacker; three daughters, Christina Kettenacker Holt and husband, James, Kerry Kettenacker Bloomingburg and husband, Scott, and Nicole Lee Kettenacker; four grandchildren, Berkley and Mark Holt, and Patrick and Ryan Bloomingburg; one sister, Barbara Perin and husband, John; as well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Sharon was the Director of Medical Staff Services at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center. The family received friends Monday December 10, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Road. A Mass of the Resurrection was held Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at the Catholic Church of the Redeemer. Graveside services were held at Signal Hill Memorial Park. Virginia F. Petitt, widow of Robert A. Petitt Sr. She was predeceased by her son, Robert A. Petitt Jr. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia M. Jones, Cindy L. Godsey; one son, James E. Petitt; three grandchildren, Stacy Penrod, Patrick Doggett, Austin Alexander; two great- grandchildren, Lilli Doggett, London Doggett; one sister, Louis James. Family received friends Monday December 17, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd., and where funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, with graveside services being held in Signal Hill Memorial Park.

Charles Richards, 84, of Richmond, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Richards; two daughters, Betty Richards and Peggie Christian; and three great-grandchildren. He leaves behind to miss him greatly his grandchildren, Victoria (Brian) Bollinger, Jamie Christian, Joseph Christian, Jimmie (Andrea) Christian; a special son-in-law and friend, Jimmie Christian Sr.; 14 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. The family received friends Tuesday December 11, 2007 and Wednesday December 12, 2007 at the Mechanicsville Chapel, Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee-Davis Rd., where funeral services were held Thursday, December 13, 2007. Graveside services followed at Virginia Veteran’s Cemetery, Amelia, Va.

Doris Hickman Stone, age 76 of Wayzata, Minnesota, formerly of Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by husband, Charles W. Stone; and sister, Deloris H. Fibbiani. She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Katherine Banisch Kessler and Michael J. Kessler; grandchildren, Hannah Kessler, Jack Kessler; sisters, Frances H. Saum, Betty H. Armstrong, Pamela B. Nuckols, Sarah B. Brooks, and Diane B. Iszczenko; and brother, George R. Hickman. Doris loved animals and nature and spending time in her gardens. She will be dearly missed. Richard J. Tilley Sr., 60, of Ashland, president of R. J. Tilley Plumbing and Heating, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007 at his home, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Judith L. Tilley; his children, Richard James Tilley Jr. and wife, Kate, Michael Timothy Tilley and wife, Lisa, William Paul Tilley and wife, Cheryl, and Shelly J. Kern and husband, Steven; seven grandchildren, Amanda Kern, Jordon Tilley, Jay Tilley, Kelsey Tilley, Jack Kern, Ryan Tilley and Caroline Tilley; brother, F. Preston “Skip” Tilley and wife, Julia. Freida Merriman Touchette, 62, of Richmond, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 6, 2007. She is survived by her mother, Mary L. Merriman; three children, Tracey Moore and husband, Tommy, Kim Marano and husband, Mark, and Michael McCormack and wife, Jamie; one grandson, Cayden Moore; one sister, Vanessa Pendleton; as well as one niece and one nephew. Charles M. Tucker, of Old Church, entered eternal rest December 14, 2007. Charlie retired from AT&T after 41 years of service. He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Mildred; also survived by his children, James Tucker and wife, Erin, Teresa Warren and husband, Ray, Kim Perry, Tammy Mooney and husband, Bill, Laurie Ostrowski-Wright and partner, Deb, Andrew Wright and wife, Sherry and Allison Coleman and husband, Curtis; a sister, Virginia T. Smith; a brother, William E. Tucker and wife, Della; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his canine companion, Jake. The family received friends Monday December 17, 2007 at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, and where funeral services were held Tuesday December 18, 2007. Graveside services were held at Concord Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Rawlings, Va.
