Speaking last week with the folks who are planning a grief support group at a local church reminds one of how modern western culture deals (or avoids dealing) with life and death issues.
In a culture obsessed with youth, and where boomers are all planning to live to be 100, it was sobering, yet somehow at the same time comforting, to talk with those who have faced the death of loved ones and come through it with the strength to help others do the same.
Being occasionally reminded of the unalterable nature of the cycle of life, and of the finite nature of our time here on earth is a useful thing. It helps in getting one’s priorities in order.
