HAAC is a treasure for all residents to enjoy

The Hanover Arts & Activities Center may be located in Ashland, but it is, without a doubt, a Hanover County hub of activity. It is truly a location for residents from throughout the county to enjoy and participate in the arts.

As 2011 winds down, HAAC is looking to the community for support. Our help can ensure the continuation of musicals, AARP meetings and Hanover Concert Band rehearsals. But that’s not all. HAAC also is involved in the success of the Hanover Idols talent competition and serves as the home of the summer Children’s Theatre Camp.

According to a letter from Sharon Stiles, president of HAAC’s Board of Directors, the organization has a “three-pronged mission — to provide a space where 1) arts; 2) education; and 3) the community come together.”

Programs offered by HAAC are either free of charge or at low cost.

Stiles said they also provide “a significant amount of scholarship support, provided by your donations and grants, for those who might need financial assistance to join us in our programs.”

If you would like more information on the programs offered by the Hanover Arts & Activities Center, call 798-2728 or visit http://www.hanoverarts.org. HAAC is on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/hanoverarts.

Etc.

+ As expected, the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade was a rousing success on Sunday. A village tradition, the parade, sponsored by the Mechanicsville Rotary Club and Mechanicsville Ruritan Club, is a must-see every year. Thanks to the year-round efforts of some truly dedicated Rotarians and Ruritans, we enjoyed an afternoon filled with Christmas cheer, talented marching bands, decorated floats, community leaders and, of course, jolly ol’ St. Nick. The 2011 edition of the Mechanicsville Christmas Parade kept the tradition alive by providing a family-friendly, enjoyable and memorable day. Thanks to all involved!
