It’s all about you

Changes are coming to the Mechanicsville Local and we want your involvement!

The Mechanicsville Local — your source for all community news and sports — will be undergoing some changes in the coming days, weeks and months.

I’d like to include recipes and health-related news in the pages of your Local.

Are you a good cook? Do you know one? Well, how about giving me a call and let’s talk about it?

You don’t have to be featured on the Food Network to share some tasty family favorite that’s been passed down through the generations.

And, before I have to think about my cholesterol levels, let’s consider the significance of a more health-conscious society.

I discovered on Friday while covering a story at Regional Memorial Medical Center that this community is blessed with an ever-expanding medical campus.

My hope is that the changes that come through these pages will be welcomed so that you will want to participate.

Because, you see, that’s the one thing that will not change — and that is your involvement. This is your newspaper.

You are always welcome to come by the office, give us a call, drop a letter in the mail, or send us an e-mail.

We want your news. You are the reason we are here.

Share your stories — and don’t be shy about letting us know about the good things going on in and around our area.

Community, schools, churches, civic organizations . . . the list goes on. The door is open for your input.

Take the time to write a letter to the editor. The forum is available to vent or sing the praises or someone or something.

But, the bottom line is we want you to be the face of The Mechanicsville Local.

Your role and your support over the years have been overwhelming, and it is our goal to maintain that relationship.

As a new resident, I want to get to know you — and there’s nothing better than living in a community where smiling and speaking to a stranger on the street or in a store is commonplace.

Better yet, let’s just think about all being neighbors — and telling our stories on the pages of The Mechanicsville Local.

This is, after all, your paper.

Your families, your friends, your home — that’s the goal of The Mechanicsville Local.

As for our motivation?

Well, that’s simple . . .

It’s all about you.

What a sight! Three young bucks, handsome, young, healthy, were dashing across the grass. One fell. He quickly got up and continued running....between two houses near Shalom Baptist Church just off 360! What’s wrong with this scene? Why aren’t they running carefree in the woods? Perhaps because their woods are being cut down and destroyed almost daily? To make way for what? More houses? More apartments? More places to eat? More places to shop?

Does Mechanicsville really need to continue such growth at the expense of the wildlife. I think not. We have plenty of places to eat, plenty of places to shop, and I’ve seen plenty For Sale signs in front of already existing homes.

Are we determined to wipe out every tree leaving nothing for our wildlife friends. It needs to be controlled; better yet, it needs to be stopped.
