It’s your right —so get out and vote
Published: October 29, 2008

I couldn’t even venture a guess as to how many times I have written this particular article, but it is so important that it bears repeating as election day nears.

Voting is your right, your privilege, your responsibility.

My parents instilled in my sister and me the significance of the election process — and because of that I have never missed the opportunity to cast my vote.

Few excuses merit voicing when it comes to going to the polls. It’s not like they’re only open a couple of hours.

Polling places open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., so there are plenty of hours available Tuesday for you to do your part.

I’ve waited in line to vote before, but it never crossed my mind to turn away.

Is this the most important election of our lives? I’m not going to say it is — because whenever we choose the leader of this great nation as our commander in chief, it’s always an important election.

Sadly, this may go down in history as one of the ugliest and nastiest, but express yourself.

As I said a few weeks ago, I am not endorsing a candidate within the pages of this publication. I will, however, start my day at my polling place.

Whoever you support is your business and I would hope we all follow our consciences when we vote.

To reiterate remarks made here recently, this election is not about color or gender. It frightens and saddens me to think that someone would deny their support based on either.

For our future, for our country, please get out and vote on Tuesday.

If you don’t participate, then don’t complain. Be a part of the solution, not the problem.

We have been entrusted with so many great freedoms — let’s not forget them next week.

It’s your choice — just take the time to use it.
