Thanks to rescue squad

I would like to thank the volunteers of East Hanover Volunteer Rescue Squad No. 146 for responding so efficiently to my home on Tuesday evening, Nov. 24.

If it was not for their quickness and working together I might not be living today.

Thanks to Diann Flemming for keeping my wife calm.

I would like to thank our friends at Eastern Hanover Volunteer Fire Department for checking on my wife when she really needed them.

Please support our volunteer rescue squads and all of our volunteer fire departments. So often we forget that they and our Hanover County Sherriff’s Office are always at our service.
Again, we would like to say a heart-felt thanks and gratitude to these fine people.

PCES starts dad’s program

Pearson’s Corner Elementary School is thrilled to start a new dads’ volunteer program beginning in January 2010.

The spirit of volunteerism for the Watch D.O.G.S. program started with the Baitinger family.

Last month, Leanna Baitinger approached the administrators at P.C.E.S. to request the opportunity to bring the Watch D.O.G.S. program to our school.

The principal and assistant principal, Stephen G. Smith and Dawn Armstrong, had already heard about the program, and were thrilled to accept Leanna’s offer to organize it, where her husband Paul would serve as the “Top D.O.G.”

With the school’s careful planning and organization, the Pearson’s Corner Watch D.O.G.S. program kicked off with a successful start on Dec. 1, 2009.

A special thank you goes out to John of Giovanni’s Restaurant on U.S. 301, for donating the 50 pizzas served for this event.
More than 150 Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) attended the informational meeting with their children.

Of the prospective Watch D.O.G.S., 85 fathers/father figures signed up to donate a specific day of service to Pearson’s Corner Elementary. During their day of volunteerism, these Watch D.O.G.S. will serve as positive male role models for our students and enhance security on school campus.

We are delighted to see this program in motion.

Because of dedicated parents, such as Paul and Leanna Baitinger and their team of fathers, we continue our partnership to “Cultivate Young Minds” at Pearson’s Corner Elementary.

Student’s wish: fix the clock tower

I want the clock tower in Mechanicsville to be fixed for Christmas Eve.

When Santa Claus flies overhead Mechanicsville on Christmas Eve, the clock tower needs to ring at midnight.

Maybe The Mechanicsville Local could help make this happen for all the children.

The Night Before Christmas is one of the best Christmas stories, because of the visit from Santa at midnight when the clock tower chimes.

In conclusion, I would like for the clock tower of Brandy Hill to be repaired for Santa to see and hear at Christmas.

Reminder to shoppers: secure your vehicles

Just a reminder to all my neighbors in Pole Green Station Subdivision and all my fellow Hanoverians.

Christmas is upon us and not all folks choose to do their shopping legally in the retail outlets.

There also are those who prey on our unlocked vehicles and unsecured property.

Already there have been incidents of theft in our neighborhood, where the chief source of robbery has been our cars.

Please take the extra moment to secure your automobiles, remove all valuables from them to dissuade vandalism and keep an eye out for nefarious conduct.

We all like to think that our community is immune to such behavior, but, sadly, we are not.

Please let this reminder make us all more vigilant.
