We should brag about our county

Some may say this writer is a cheerleader when it comes to singing the praises of those who deserve such recognition. I’m OK with that.
Last week, two examples served as reminders of why Hanover County is a great place to call home.
During the Sept. 14 regular meeting of the Hanover County Board of Supervisors, Col. David Hines of the Sheriff’s Office and Chief Fred Crosby of Fire/EMS reported on the efforts of government staff when Hurricane Irene rolled through our community.
The teamwork and concern for residents were so impressive — and heart-warming. It’s good to know we live in a county where neighbors helping neighbors still exists. More details on the extraordinary work of county workers can be found on today’s front page.
And, on Aug. 24, we ran a story about the video Hanover County Public Schools did at the end of the 2010-2011 term. Before last Tuesday’s School Board meeting, it aired — and I loved it! As a matter of fact, I’ve watched it several times. There are more than 9,000 hits. Check it out — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTIYVeuZx3E&feature=youtu.be.
Etc.
+ The Hanover Association of Businesses and Chamber of Commerce is working with county government to receive input on Internet issues. On Monday, Oct. 3, a meeting will be held at The Montpelier Center for Arts & Education. A Mechanicsville session follows on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Mechanicsville Library at 7461 Sherwood Crossing Place in Mechanicsville. Both are scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. You have two opportunities to provide county leaders with your concerns.
