Local girl sets and achieves goals
Tue. Jun 12, 2007

Arianna Yvette Martin, a rising 5th grader at Pearson's Corner Elementary
School had two goals when she competed in the National American Miss 2006
Miss Virginia Pageant and that was to have fun and meet the Governor of
Virginia. She not only had fun, but also got the opportunity to meet the
Hon. Governor Tim Kaine. Arianna will relinquish her crown in July during
the state pageant and had a wonderful time being a positive role model for
other girls interested in pageantry. During her year-long reign, Miss
Martin participated in the Virginia State Fair Parade and joined sister
queens at King?s Dominion for a photo shoot and fun-filled day at the
amusement park. She traveled to New York and had the wonderful
opportunity to meet Mr. Joseph ?Rev Run? Simmons, Mrs. Justine Simmons and
Mr. Russell Simmons and their families during a swim party at Run?s House
and also dined at the renowned Junior's and Sylvia's Restaurants. For
community service, she supported Children?s Miracle Network by
volunteering time to sell lemonade at the Mechanicsville Ukrops for Anthem
LemonAid and raised $278. She was selected to meet the Queen of
England during her official visit to celebrate America's 400th Anniversary
of Jamestown, Virginia. She made the Principal's list all four semesters,
graduated from the 4th Grade with Straight A's and received a special
invitation from the Hon. Ryan McDougle, Virginia State Senate to receive a
private tour of the Virginia State Capitol based on her academic
excellence. She believes school is so much fun and continues to strive
for excellence by "staying focused"! As she completes her year-long
reign, she will continue to promote the benefits of community service and
tell all contestants at the state pageant to be themselves, make rewarding
and lasting friendships and most importantly have fun.
