Local men and son team win Bluefish Derby
Tue. Jun 26, 2007

Five Mechanicsville men won the 24th Annual Reedville Bluefish Derby held June 8 and 9 at Buzzard’s Pt. Marina. The annual event drew 200 boats this year and is one of the oldest bluefish tournaments in the Chesapeake Bay region. Greg Lewter caught the winning rockfish on the first day of the tournament aboard Capt. Jason Anderson’s boat, the Anna C. The fish weighed 25.3 pounds and a $5,000 check was awarded to the men. Kyle Lewter, son of Greg Lewter, won the rockfish youth division. His fish weighed in at 20.26 pounds and he received a check for $500. Kyle fished aboard Capt. Woody Robertson’s boat, Sharon’s Song. All five men graduated from Lee-Davis High School together. This year’s winners represented second and third generation fishermen in the tournament.
