Girls soccer final

Atlee’s Lindsey Booth scored 33 seconds into the Capital District Championship match and the Raiders ran away from a tired Lee-Davis team to breeze to the tournament title 5-1.

“I don’t think we’ve ever scored that quickly into a game before,” said Atlee team captain Kristin Lescalleet. “We just came out ready to play.”

Jordon Roseboro, who recently returned from injury, added a second goal for the Raiders’ less than nine minutes into the match then added another 12 minutes later for a 3-0 lead.

“She’s still not 100 percent, but you can see how dangerous she can be,” said Atlee coach Bruce Lovelace.

Then with 7:19 to play in the first half, Lescalleet added one more goal, threading a shot between Lee-Davis defenders.

After narrowly beating the Confederates in their regular season final, the Raiders wanted to make sure there was no doubt about the championship game. “The last game was such a great game, we just didn’t want that to happen again,” said Lescalleet.

“It was our senior year and we didn’t want to lose it,” Lescalleet said.
In the second half, Lescalleet added a second goal off a corner kick to put the Raiders into cruise control at 5-0.

Lovelace said his team is getting where it needs to be going into regional play. “We’re getting to the point where I’m getting players back who have been injured and it’s hard because you need everybody to mesh together,” he said. “I think we’re going to be alright but regionals are tough no matter what.”

Capital District Player of the Year, Kimmy Cummings scored the Confederates lone goal shortly into the second half.

Lee-Davis head coach Brad Dalton, said he was not surprised by the outcome following the Confederates’ marathon match against Hanover the night before. “After what we went through last night we were physically exhausted and it was kind of evident,” he said. “We kind of knew going in we weren’t going to have any legs under us.

“At halftime we just challenged the girls to finish strong and take something positive out of it,” Dalton said. “We were 1-1 in the second half and we’re taking that as a positive going into next week (regional) play.”

Dalton was named Capital District Coach of the Year.

As district winner, Atlee hosts Cosby Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. Lee-Davis will play at James River, Tuesday at 7 p.m. The winners advance to semifinal action at Atlee on Thursday, May 29.
