Atlee girls shine in tennis tourney

Atlee’s No. 1 Yasmin Fotovat continued her undefeated season with a first round regional win.

CENTRAL REGION GIRLS’ TENNIS

Atlee’s Yasmin Fotovat eliminated Nicole Parker of Mills Godwin 7-5, 6-2 in singles, then teamed with Shao-Ching Tu for a straight set doubles victory over the Midlothian duo of Christine Abbott and Lauren Baxter in the quarterfinals of the Central Region girls tennis tournament yesterday. Fotovat plays Abbott in the singles semis.

The Raiders’ Rebekah Ferguson and Christina Shifflett also advanced in doubles, defeating- Angelica Esteves and Erin Hickey of Cosby 7-6 (7-5), 7-6, (7-5).

Singles favorite Emily Hahn of Douglas Freeman advanced to today’s semifinals with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Julia Vilardell of Lee-Davis. Hahn, a freshman,  meets Esteves, who sent Elizabeth Walsh of Prince George packing in straight sets.

Parker and partner Meg Kristofak didn’t lose a game to the Prince George pair of Walsh and Shana Temple and face off with Fotovat and Tu today.

In a quarterfinal game of the Colonial District baseball tournament, Tyler Wilkinson went 2 for 4 with a three-run home run and Kyle Stanley had a two-run shot as No. 5 Patrick Henry shut down fourth-seeded Hermitage 8-0. Derrick Brewer pitched a complete game, giving up two hits and fanning 15.

Sam Moore pitched a complete- game shutout, scattering three hits over seven innings as No. 4 Patrick Henry defeated Hermitage 7-0 in the quarterfinals of the tournament. Anna Hogue finished 2 for 3 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Shelbie West had two hits and scored a run for the Patriots.
