After winning at Southside Speedway Thursday night in the Denny Hamlin Short Track Challenge, Kyle Busch did it again on another short track Friday night at Richmond International Raceway.

Busch and Carl Edwards battled throughout the night for first place in the Lipton Tea 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. Busch regained the lead on the restart after the eighth caution of the night. Edwards had opened up a one-and-a-half second lead but Busch came storming back trying to take the high line on turn one.

“He didn’t get off the restart as well as I did. I faked him low and went up high,” Busch said of his restart. “I got up on him where he had to give me a land and we got around him.”

Edwards blocked to hold the lead but Ken Butler in the No. 20 car brought out the eighth caution when he spun out in turn two.

Busch got a great jump on the restart and passed Edwards. “I worked really hard on my restarts and just didn’t have anything on Kyle tonight. He got on the inside of me, and I needed a long run to be able to get him back and it just didn’t happen,” Edwards said.

The caution flag flew once more with just eight laps to go with six laps to go when Kenny Wallace took a spill in Turn 1. Racing went back to the green with five laps to go. Though the caution bunched the field up behind Busch, he again got the jump on the restart and took the checkered flag.

Busch and Edwards had the edge on the field all night. After several cautions got the night started, racers got a long stretch of green and the pair opened a half lap lead on the field. Busch gained a double-car edge on Edwards, who posted a comeback of his own. By lap 153, the two were neck-and-neck. Edwards tried to take the low line around Busch who blocked. On lap 159, Edwards finally got around Busch for the lead but the cars got caught up in lapped traffic and couldn’t extend his lead.

Edwards led 71 laps on the night while Busch led 115. Busch is now 82 points ahead of Edwards in the point standings.
