Last Wednesday, the Lee-Davis gymnastics team got an early season test when they took to the floor against Deep Run and Goochland at Stonewall Jackson Middle School. Despite a solid C-fed performance, Deep Run barely edged by Lee-Davis 131.4 to 129.05. 

  But it was Lee-Davis junior Hannah Chenault who took the top individual prize by beating out a trio of Wildcats; Lauren Stewart, Angela Tu and Megan Craig for the All-Around ribbon.

  Chenault won the uneven parallel bars and turned in the best floor routine while taking second in both the vault and balance beam.

  Overall, Lee-Davis head coach Cy Witherow was satisfied with what he saw from his young team. “I was pleased with the improvements we made,” he said. “We got three kids back that were hurt last week.”

  The C-feds hope to excel this season having lost only one gymnast to graduation last year. Furthermore, Sarah Wright is the only senior on this year’s team. “So if the middle school keeps providing talented kids this should continue to get better,” Witherow said.

  And with such a young team, Witherow hopes that weather will not keep the C-feds from practice during the holiday break. “Hopefully there won’t be a lot of snow over Christmas break so we can work on a lot of things that we need to work on,” he said. “We have four or five kids that need to add skills that they’re really close but they don’t have yet. There’s potential there but they’ve got to want to take ownership of it.”
