Locals reign at Big Blue
Wrestlers from Lee-Davis, Matoaca and Hopewell also made sure the Richmond public school contingent was ably represented in the Big Blue finals.
The Warriors had three individual champions— Blake Roulo (140), Josh Clark (145) and Austin Akins (189)—and finished 10th in the team standings.
The Confederates placed two in the finals —Calvin Davis placed first at 215 and John Alexander was second to Akins at 189— and had three other top-six performances to claim sixth place.
Hopewell also had two finalists en route to a 12th-place finish. Clint Allala beat Great Bridge’s Joey Grainger 4-1 in a potential state tournament matchup at 171, and Gay fell to Jeske in the 119-pound final.
