Brazilan IndyCar drivers Mario Moraes and Raphael Matos served up the meat at Texas de Brazil and Danica Patrick raced remote control cars in the airport tarmac in Richmond, all in preparation of IndyCar Weekend in Richmond.
Early Friday morning the USAC teams hit the pavement for practice while IndyCar crews went to work tuning up for their rounds on the track.
After the first round of IndyCar practice, Dario Franchitti led the pack with a speed of 161.135. Rookie Raphael Matos, Scott Dixon, Helio Castroneves and Tomas Schecketer round out the top five.
Last year’s SunTrust IndyCar Challenge winner Tony Kanaan only ran 13 practice laps to turn in the 15th best time.
