The Richmond airwaves lost a friend and a historic voice on Thursday evening when longtime radio broadcaster Terry Sisisky passed away after a brief bout with cancer. Sisisky was diagnosed in April, soon after completing television broadcasts of the VHSL state basketball championships.
Nicknamed “T-Man” Sisisky was best known as the voice of VCU basketball, where he spent 28 years. Inducted into the VCU Hall of Fame in 2009, Sisisky was part of 840 Rams basketball games prior to his retirement in 2008.

The Mechanicsville Little League 9-10 year old girls softball team captured the 2010 Virginia State Championship on July 21 in Yorktown, Virginia. It was stellar pitching, team offense and defense that secured the state title The Mechanicsville All-Star team went undefeated in eight through district and state tournament games where they outscored opponents 92-7. They defeated Bridgewater Little League in their final game 9-2 to win the state championship.

After going 2-1 in state tournament pool play, the Atlee 9-10 All-Stars faced a strong challenges in the first two rounds of the single-elimination state championship.
In their elimination round opener against Great Falls, Atlee exhausted the eligibility of their top two pitchers. Jack Dragum threw 70 pitches and Nick Zona closed the game with 56 pitches, burning them from throwing for the rest of the tournament.

Last week, NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace returned to victory lane at Richmond International Raceway. However, this time around the man, who ranks as the third all-time winner at Richmond with six victories, was not there to celebrate a race victory. Instead the former driver of the Miller Lite #2 car cruised into victory lane behind the wheel of a new white Ford Mustang as part of a promotional partnership between RIR and Loveland Distributing- a local distributor of Miller Lite and Miller-Coors.

=Mechanicsville’s Dori Franzen, a 15-year-old dirt bike racer, recently qualified for the largest amateur motocross race in the world; the 29th Annual AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch. Franzen took on over 20,000 hopefuls from across America to earn one of just 1,386 qualifying positions.

The Atlee Nationals entered the championship game of last week’s Atlee 9 Year Old Tournament with a 5-0 record, but couldn’t overcome a Tuckahoe team that also entered the contest undefeated to run away with a 13-6 win.
